Pre programmed is pretty hopeless unless they have a tune for those exact mods.

I can do a Custom Pre-Programmed chip to suit most common cams/mods, or if you have a different combo and can supply dyno sheets with AFR and RPM I can tune from these too.

Hope this helps!

That's all good but most people get pre programmed chips because they are too tight to throw the car on the dyno in the first place. A case in point is a local member who has his eye on a second hand chip of yours that roughly suits his combination. I say roughly because he hand ports his own heads and his methods are rather unorthodox (bigger is better in every aspect, and not much attention to flow quality). The reason he wants the chip is because it saves him the cost of a dyno tune. But because his head flow figures are out compared to a usual port job, a pre tuned chip for him is only a compromise at best. On top of all that he is running a sprint gas dual fuel LPG setup (running gas 100% of the time). Am I right in saying that the only thing your chip would be good for in this case is to alter the timing to suit LPG or is there some stepper motor control thrown in as well? And if its just good for the timing, wouldn't a regraphed dizzy be a cheaper alternative in this case?

Hey mate,

I edited my original post after I wrote it because it came across too aggressive! So apologies if it came across that way :)

Agree that people seem to think that "one size fits all" which is why I make the point that each Custom chip I do is unique for that car and its combo. My non-Custom chips are only stock files (i.e. XR, auto to Manual etc). I can't control 2nd hand sales but I can remap them for a lot less than what the other players in this space charge. If your friend could get a dyno run done and provide me with some charts I could tune based on this.

With the Tickford LPG bins the stepper is controlled by the Tickford computer, not the ECU. The J3 can only alter the timing as the LPG computer has its own feed for O2 etc. This can still give a great increase in both power and economy as factory petrol maps are so far off so it's a good solution for either a hybrid 98ron/LPG tune or two switchable tunes if you cant source an LPG ECU or want to run more timing than the LPG ECU gives. I have seen 50-100km/tank increases in LPG economy from a decent spark map alone.

A vacuum dizzy is only a useful option if you ditch the ECU entirely as you will lose tacho feeds, trip computer, climate control etc in later model cars. You have much finer control over spark with an ECU so you would get better economy out of a remapped ECU anyway - making it a cheaper alternative in the long run.

Cheers,
Jason

Thanks. I'll let him know. But he is tighter than a nuns proverbial so I doubt he'll take the advice.

Well, I know Mike hasn't ever used our products, 'cause I haven't sold them to him! I have sold well over 250 chips and have many happy customers as per here, here and here. Take a read and make up your mind for yourself.

You may be able to spin the dizzy to get a better peak power figure from the extra advance, but this is hardly tuning the car. This is the extent of what you can do with the stock ECU without a chip of some sort.

At the end of the day, the choice is yours, you need to make a decision that's right for you and your combo. There is plenty of information is out there if you're willing to go find it!

You've been in my car and is has a sct chip which is pretty much the same. J3 chips work and work good

yeh ive had a look at the t.i performance ones. ive been in contact with him, he does pre programmed, i want to get it dyno tuned to get max power. i think that just getting an afr reading is a bit dodgey. i dont really know what the best option is. i dont wanna risk getting a pre programmed and only making 2kw extra. where abouts are you? do you do dyno tuning? and how much are the chips?

...I am Jason from T.I. Performance!

If you want to get it dyno tuned, check the dealer page on the website, there are a few dealers in Vic to choose from.

I don't personally do dyno tuning, but to give you an example a recent customer got a dyno tune after getting one of my custom pre-programmed chips and only got an extra 2hp... Not all tunes will be this accurate, but this was good to hear!
