hey guys and gals,

just need an opinion on my engine.. it had some hell bad pinging to the stage i was running bp ultimate and anything less than 98 octane would make it ping.. just recently my lifters sound like they have s**t themself and there is some other problems like valves occasionally sticking.. i dont know the exact problems but i know the lifters are fairly shot..

would i be better getting the lifters replaced or just get the engine pulled and either reco'd or just chuck a new engine in or whats your thoughts.. dont know much about this sorta stuff

its a efII 5 speed with extractos and 3 inch full kit if it makes a difference.

thanks

if the bottom end hasn't done a great deal of k's i'd just rebuild the head and toss in a cam too.

Im almost in the same boat, EF2 tickford head, xr cam, (all recoed) 4499's and a redback exhaust along with a xr ECU, and If I use anything under its claimed 98ron... It pings like a mofo.. BP ultimate and horizon premium seems to be fine... but I cant stop this b**ch from pinging either :/

I wonder if our knock sensors are shagged?

It sound like the valves are pinging and rattling in the engine.

Try this take an older 4 cyl to a road on a decent hill, turn the air conditioner on and take off in second or third, thats the sound.

My stoko EF i6 is pinging aswell under load. I am starting to sway to the cause maybe being the fuel injectors. I put fuel cleaner stuff in and it seems to cure it, the pinging that is. As I figure that if the injectors are blocked or gumed up or something and not letting as much fuel through as needed leaning things out causing the pinging.

Anyone got any thoughts?

I thought it was the knock sensors job to keep pinging down to a minimum?
