Have you run it yet?

I have seen that happen before - but only after the aux shaft has seized in the block (which causes the chain to rip the sprocket off). If so the engine is a bin job.

Hope its not though...

It was running (just) whilst the sprocket had some play in it so I'm hoping that the aux. shaft hasn't seized. I can't see why it would. We're pulling the shaft out on Monday and replacing it along with everything else that needs replacing.

The motor has only gotta' last me another 4 months until I finish Year 12 and have time to put a rebuilt AU one in. If worst comes to worst I'll just have to put off my paint job again and move my engine swap forward to now. I don't really have time to be doing any of this right now but I've got one of those wonder Dads so he's saving my a** :D He's doing it all with 3 broken ribs too!

Much thanks goes to Dad for this one.

happened to me once, aux shaft seized because I didn't release the tensioner properly. Still have that block in my garage for some reason. :(

drain ya oil and check for metal grit in oil from where it sheared if so say bye bye to it as it pumps through and scores the bores, caps, bearings ect , if not you can replace it and save the motor. ya gonna have to pull out ya cam angle sensor to replace that drive , also dependes if ya doin whole shaft or just gear cause even if the chain had moved something has siezed to snap it like that

Well I just spent a touch over $100 on this one Matt as it was slightly warped and needing straightening as well as shaving.

Is there any way it can come out?

Nope. Not a snowballs chance in hell of getting that bastard out of there. It's time for a new motor for you!

Did you do anything specific to make it seize? Didn't reset the tensioner? Anything out of the ordinary? I really want to know why it does it as the old "it's just a freak thing" doesn't cut it for me. I sure as hell don't want it to happen again.

Tensioner piston may not have aligned properly with the timing chain guide which may have caused the guide to have a little bit of play...forwards and backwards (until it locks itself in...but it may have been too late). That may have cause something maybe?
