I'm trying to decide whether or not I should sell or work on my old EL. My budget is very flexible, but at the same time I'm trying to keep things cheap.

Mechanically, this thing has been a pain in the a**.

Owned for about 16 months, had 180k's on the dial.

I've so far :
Had the headgasket done and machined
Dizzy repaired
Changed Fuel Filter
Changed Bearings
Changed Spark Plugs
Complete Service (Oil and the likes)
Transmission Serviced
Exhaust and cat cleaned and tested

And on tuesday it's getting :
Steering column replaced
New injectors
Aircon fixed (not sure what's wrong with it, hopefully cheap and serviceable)
Breaks/Suspension checked/fixed. (think my breaks are done, grinds when breaking, squeaks when turning/going over bumps).

I was intending to sell it after the next lot of repairs, but since I'm so undecided on what car to get next (20k-30k range), I think it would be more worthwhile to save my cash, and spend a comparatively low amount getting this thing cleaned up.

Should I get rid of it before something else pops up, or have I covered way too much to sell it when it finally gets smooth?

If I keep it, I'll re-spray it aswell, bunch of paint scratches, chips, and front bumper has it's body kit missing, so that will need to be replaced.

I'd like to know some opinions, scrap it and get a new car, or work on it and save some cash.

I have had my EL for 4 years and it has given me enough issues to think about selling in, but I like the EL and I have spend many hours and money on it to get it the way it is (even though it still has issues today). I am however, limited in money so don't have the option of buying a newer modelled car which will most likely have less issues than a 14 year old car.

Considering you have spent a lot of time and money to get it fixed to the state that it is, it would be a huge loss. Spend a few more dollars to get it right and it should look after you for the next few years. I'm sure you're not going to spend 20K on getting the thing fixed...if so then by all means get a newer car.

I have spent about $6000 on my EL over 4 years...or $10000ish including the car. To me that was money well spent. Most expensive part being the suspension...which was done at a suspension specialist and I pretty much went all out. Everything else was pretty much done at home...so definitely money well saved there.

In the end, it is up to you.

My budget will most likely be around 6k for a re-spray + further work.

Anyone know much about reverting from dual fuel to single? Seems LPG has caused ALOT of my issues.

I think you have to get someone certified to remove the tank in the boot? If not a redneck attempt would be to just pull everything out that is LPG related...making sure the LPG tank is obviously empty, but I'm no expert...
