Hey guys at the mechanics now an tsken the bolt off but the prick is still well and truly stuck on, we have tried to pry it off but it just flexes, any tips and tricks to get it off, car is a bf falcon, most appreciate the quick response, do you some kind of special puller as it looks like the standard one doesnt have the 3 holes to grab onto with

there is a tool for it.
It has been that way since the AU and your mechanic should know this. Find a new mechanic.

i also think you need a new mechanic...even a gear puller will work...
prying on the balancer is a bad idea, aspecially with an alloy timing case...

We went down to ford and borrowed their harmonic puller that grabs onto it and as u screw the nut it pulls it off, just finishing up now

If he does not have the most basic of tools to work on one of the most common cars on the road, I would strongly suggest a new mechanic as well, I am normally reserved about this sort of topic, but the balancer puller for these motors is an essential part of a tradies box.

lol the puller they had was designed for the balancer to have 3 screw holes into so they could attach theirs to it. However the stock ford balancer doesnt have these screw holes so they couldnt use theirs. They were going to order one in but i spoke to my friends at Power Ford and they let us borrow theirs. The new balancer has the 3 screw holes so if i ever need to take it off again then the puller my mechanic has will be fine.

Oh also troy we werent going crazy with the prying like yanking on it or anything so nothing to worry about there, we just had a go thats all.

All in all its done now and the motor definitely feels to rev up quicker. Can't wait to go for a longer drive in a couple hours

I will post pics and some more detail in my build thread later tonight once i have gone for a longer drive

Thanks for your help guys

Cheers

Phil

Ford has not used the 3 bolt puller since the AU Started, duuuuuuuuu 1998, Get a new mechanic, this C**k is dangerous, who was going to pay for the timing case when he broke it trying to pry the balancer off.

Lol he wasnt pulling on it that hard! The mechanic doesnt specialise in fords and honestly how often do you have to remove the balancer, the senior bloke knew about it so all good

I'm not a ford specialist, I have the tool in the bottom draw of my tool box, sitting next to a bunch of other model specific tools.

Not often for each car. but these days 50% of the AUs that I see have a leaking front seal, Most of those also have a stuffed balancer.
The tool is standard equipment and it only costs about $130
Series 1 BAs aren't far behind.

cool cool, he did have a neat way of undoing the bolt that holds the balancer in tho, jam a spanner against the ground connected to it and then flick the ignition so the starter motor goes off slightly, because its anti clockwise or whatever it undoes itself, we partly removed the splash tray so the spanner could reach the ground

Every one does that to get the balancer bolts loose. saves having to take the rad out. which means saving an hours work and $50 of coolent.
