hello today i started my car and theres a knocking sound coming from the sump on idle or i think its from the sump anyway it sounds sort of like a dull clack sounds like a horse steping on concreate. Anyway just wondering what i should do from here i would like to hear from some of you people who have experienced these types of sounds from engines. Time to change the block? :( thanks for any posts

sounds like your bottom end is shagged. my original 3.9L in my EB started doing it at about 290000kms. so i just did a full engine swap for a tickford engine

I had the same thing happen to my EL a couple of years ago, at the time it had 186 on the clock and auto.
Pulled out of the driveway one day and engine stalled completely. Tried to get it started for about 10 minutes with no success, It finally started but it had some horrific knocking exactly like that sound clip.
Figured it must be a rod or main bearing I swapped the engine a week later. Probably the cheapest option, they go for around 350-500 bucks at the wreckers depending on what you want and no. of k's

my old engine didnt have this knock at all and it did over 300 000 on the clock, i decided to swap it as it was getting old, so i swapped it with this one i have in there atm, one in the sound clip, and after i put that nulon lifter treat ment in the noise started

That's weird, could be a coincidence as the first thing I did when it started knocking was change the lifters (my old man was 100% certain it was the lifters and since he knows a lot more than me i thought i should listen). I can tell you it made no difference at all and i was 260 bucks out of pocket.

it sounds like bottom end. i've learnt from experience. just ask ToranaGuy. he heard it. i just ran a motorcraft filter and 25w60 oil and serviced it every 5000kms for about 35,000kms i drove it. and not puting around too. i gave it some big revs quite often
