ok,,1990 EA with a 4 litre.

when i go to start it sometimes it sounds like the engine is trying to jump out of the engine bay.

it makes a real thump noise and you can feel it in the floor. :(

now if i put my foot on the accelerator a little bit it won't do it and starts.

the 3.9 used to do it aswell

any one know what is happening and how to stop it.

oh and does anyone know of another auto trans thats plug and play.

get someone to start the engine while your looking at the engine bay. If the engine is bumping down hard on something, this could eventually crack your bottom end like it did to my mates vt, hoevers his happenned every time he changed gear. The problem was a blocked exhaust but I got no idea what it could be.

Check left engine mount???
Check them all including g/box rear mount...
Check starter motor fitment??
Check transmission cover, it could be hitting converter bolts???

i have the same problem, only mine isnt as bad sounding as yours, these are the noises i get from mine,

1. the exhaust mount has gone so on start up it taps on the floor

2. the starter motor is stuffing up so sometimes it dosnt extend all the way or it dosnt come back in for a while and whirs like all hell,

3. when i hold it in first and accelerate it revs hard then i back right off and i get this weird noise as if the dizzy cap is being slapped around the enginebay kinda thing, but if i apply the accelerator a bit the noise dissapears... any ideas oin that one?

but i also get the rattleing on start up

Check your torque converter bolts. If it was a VN I would say: have you replaced your flex plate recently...
