Is there any way of minimising the loss of power through the drive train, or is it just one of those things that are just to be. What would be some aftermarket perfomance parts that would strengthen the drive train as well as make it perform better.
:)

a lighten & balanced flywheel & drive shaft. 3.7:1 diff ratio. have every single part shot peen. $$$$

heres some info for you, I've cut & paste from the net.

WHAT IS PEENING?
Peening or shot peening, as it is commonly referred to in the
metal working industry, is a cold-working process performed
under highly controlled conditions in which the part to be
treated is bombarded by a stream of rounded media or shot.

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF SHOT PEENING?
Usually metal fatigue failures begin as small cracks at the .
surface of the part and travel toward the core under cyclic
loading, resulting in final failure . For a crack to be
initiated , the surface must be under tensile stress which
can be caused by either the applied operational load of the
equipment or from a surfaced efec t .
Shot peening prevents these failures by creating a surface
which is in high compressive stress; therefore , an even
higher tensile stress will be required in order to initiate
afatigue crack which could result in failure .
Shot peening can also be used to form or change the shape of
some parts and also to eliminateporosity .
WHAT ARE SOm OF THE COMMON APPLICATIONS?
Coil and leafsprings are peened to improve
their fatigue characteristics . In most cases
spring life can be increased a minimum of 30
percent and has often been increased as much
a s ten times by shot peening.
Torsion bars are peened in areas of highest
stress.
Shafts and axles are peened to improve fatigue
strength .
Gears should be peened a t the root of the
fillets which is an area of high stress .
Aluminum die - castings such as transmission
housings are peened i n order t o reduce porosity
and therefore , eliminate leakage of lubricant
through the walls ,
High strength steel parts should be peened
after grinding, since grinding will induce
residual tensile stress.
Steel parts being used under dynamic loads
should be peencd priortopidting . In thrs
case, peening will act to prevent any cracks
or imperfections in the chrome or nickel
plating spreading in to the parent part .
WHAT TYPES OF EQUIPMENT ARE USED FOR PEENING?

i see this thread has come to a holt so i have started another thread in which i dont mean to hijack this one

hi

ok guys since dyno's is a very heated and arguementive topic lets see what happens here

We have a test vehicle donated by a Fordmods forum member name will be withheld to protect him from outside sources

We have a new BA XR6 straight of the production line( less than 3 weeks old ) just run by Fords procedures a virgin dyno car with less than 5000km's

I put forward a simple question

this vehicle is a factory standard BA XR6 with no mods what so ever YET

this car will be run between monday and friday this coming week at night after work which will suit both of us and i will post the results and graphs .

i will not be running the dyno in shootout mode but i will do a ramp up and ramp down graphing style so we will get the initia of this vehicle

Q1. what would u expect to see the rear wheel kwatt of a factory standard BA XR6 on a dyno dynamics chassis dyno ????

Q2 . what are the factory power figures from Ford ???

cheers

hi

OK guys , heres a example of a vehicle a factory standard BA XR6 run on a dyno do the mathamtics and see what sort of losses we can base this car on.

we know factory kwatts at the engine , we know chassis dyno kwatts at the rear wheels make a calculation of the drivetran losses from the engine to the back wheels ???

the link is

cheers

HOLY s**t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This would HAVE to be not only the oldest, but the most s**t thread I've ever seen.

I have wasted 15 minutes of precious work time reading this dribble!!!

Poor old FPV-GTp. The poor bastard offers a simple calculation to try and help people calculate their fly wheel power and everyone shoots him down in flames and offers THEIR version...

Who cares about Fly power? Everyone is well aware that there are ten million trillion kabillion variances that can alter RWK and make it hard to determine FW/KW.

I'm all for having your car dynoed before and after mods on the same dyno to see what sort of gain you get and use that figure as an indicator, but let's not try and work out how much FW/KW we have. It don't matter!

I'm partially with STEADY_ED when he talks about him doing quarters and others doing dyno's.

The only REAL way to see how fast your car is and how fast YOU are is to put your car down the quarter and be done with it!

f**k FW/KW!!! It's s**t!!!

My 2 cents, rant over
