Don't listen to them fiftyone give it a shot.
Afterall them motor only has to last 12 or so seconds to prove the point.

Doesnt the nitrogen help keep the engine together wherreas pure oxygen would blow it sky high?

The reason u dont let your petrol/gas lean out on a turbo set up is the exact same, u add more air but u have to petrol up otherwise it burns to hot and melts parts. A shot of this will melt unless matched to an increase in fuel.

what your saying is all well and good but there are ways around this. like i said before, it wouldn't be pure going in, just a pure 'SHOT' much like a SHOT! of NOS. and if thats too much, use a 70% blend or something that works. i just think its an idea that needs to be tried one day

I think everyone here agrees its a really bad idea, but by all means go get a license to handle compressed o2, buy the valves, plumbing, aftermarket ecu, spare engines, couple of days of dyno time and tell us how you go.

Be warned if you do do this. Pure oxygen is very corrosive, and will destroy most metal that it comes into contact with. It is also not only highly flamible, but extremely explosive. Many years ago, a bloke by the name of Julian Edgar (once the technical editor of ZOOM in the early days) toyed with this idea as well. He found out that the hardest part was getting valves that dont use grease to release the O2. He even did an article on the subject back in the very early issues of ZOOM. The problem is when O2 is mixed with grease it becomes unstable, and when done under pressure it is even worse. Also be advised that NOS uses 1000psi when injected, and i doubt that you would be able to get an O2 fill to the same PSI. My SCUBA tank is only rated to 242 PSI, Yet my NOS bottle is rated to 1500PSI. Goodluck but this stuff is extremely expolsive. The guys are saying it will induce an uncrontrolled burn, i am telling you it is explosive.
Brett

Well done Terrorist.

As I was laughing my way through the first page, memories of Julian's efforts were also being replayed.

Oxygen is dangerous. Especially when people are thieving perfectly good oxygen for their own selfish use...

Hey Terrorist, just looked at your gallery... Do you always stage with your tyres in the puddle?

Ok, first of all. Good to see people trying to explore ideas.

First we will start with what will make it hard to work with. Scuba cylinders are rated around 240 bar (bar is atmospheres roughly 14.7 psi or something). So its actually a lot higher than nos bottles, and generally larger. Except the gas is just compressed. Nos is stored in equilibrium between liquid and gas (so many psi at this temp etc.). Pretty much theres not much oxygen in the tank to sustain it for long. An average tank holds about 90 cubic foot of air (not much compared to what engines use at WOT).

Now you could store it as a liquid. Hehehehe. DONT! Highly unstable and it will do things you wouldnt expect. ie. magnatised

What you could do is fill the tank up with 100% oxygen. Then if you do get it working (air/fuel, vavles etc.) you may just get your 10 - 15 seconds. But like other people have said. . . at what cost.

For almost everyone its too much of a job. But that doesnt mean stop. Try it if you want, everyone would love to hear how it goes.
HINT: 100% oxygen, slowly purged into intake.

Please correct me if I am wrong (only human). but this is just some things i thought of for others to try to overcome.
Good luck

i think the best way to test this is an old s**t motor and a tank from an oxy kit. i think it can be done. thanks for the positive EggHead
