Hi guys,

I have recently upgraded the cam in my xg ute to a wade 1673. Old lifters were noisy on startup so i put a new set in. Now on startup the engine runs silent but when it warms after a few minutes one lifter gets real noisy and does not stop until the engine cools.

Are the rocker assembly's interchangable with others from say an eb or ed?

And lastly the since i put the cam in (and added once extra shim), the engine has not run so good. Heaps of black smoke, running rich and struggling to keep idle. I changed the ECU over to an EL one and it is marginally better.

Any suggestions?

are you sure you put the lifter shims in the right way? are you using vernier adjustable cam gear? any chance the oil giudes in the rocker assemberly didnt fall out when you change the lifters? (they look like a smaller version of a head locator guide) I had the same problem and turned out it was that 7 of 8 were there but lost the 8th one when warmed up started to tick bad replaced the missing one and never had the problem again....

I did put the lifters in the right way. No not using a vernier cam gear. I haven't checked the oil giudes, are you talking about the locating dowles?

Yes thats what Im talking about (you may have crushed one/lost one and its leaking oil at HIGH temps) the rocker bolts (8 in total locating guides) go through them

Well I managed to solve two things. I scored a rocker assembly of an ed and it fits. The reason the enging has been running like a sack of crap is that the XG ecu cannot cope with the cam change. Swapped to an el ecu and all is good. Still have the ticking noise though....

What oil are you running? May be too thin...

Just because the lifters are new, does not mean all are good. Sometimes you get a dud. Locate the ticking one, and check it.

Was using Nulon 15 50 fully synth now using 15 60 penrite.

I have tried to locate the faulty lifter but no luck. There is no play, signs of excessive wear and i could not for the life of me narrow it down to a specific cylinder. The supplier of the lifters said if i wanted to claim a warranty i had to give them all back and they would send them off to be tested and i could take 3 weeks. I cleaned them nicely put them back in the bags, went back when there was a different sales rep and got a refund.....I am now going to reco my own.

I did manage to find out that one of my s/plugs tip was slightly bent off centre, i straightened it, put it back at it runs heaps better. I have now put NGK BPR6EY's in, slightly colder plug.
