hey I have a worked ED falcon and one of the things which is driving me nuts about it is the limitor for speed and revs. i am a first year mechanic but still dont realy no much. I was wondering if i could maybe put an EA computer in to remove the 190kmph speed limtor. Will this screw with my injectors or anything like that? Also if it could be changed what kind of price range am i looking at. Thanks for all your help. Love dis site hey

why would u want a 190kph speed limiter removed? i mean ,after 180kph in a non xr, the tailshaft apprently becomes unstable and can come out....n rev limiter i would say u need a chip for or a earlier ecu, but speed limiter i wouldnt recommend, but get a xr ecu, as they have no speed limiter

People are just recommending these things. He DIDN'T mention track work, so the fact that he might want to do those speeds on our roads is a safe assumption.

I don't think it is a lecture, more of a way of looking out for a fellow ford supporter, and we don't want to see him become a statistic, and worse, wreck a perfectly good ford ;)

My EL is modified and I have no intentions of removeing the speed limiter unless I fitted an XR tail shaft and a tail shaft loop - and only if I was keen on doing some runs at the salt lakes.

As for the rev limiter.. its there for a reason. I'm sure ford wouldn't have it at 5000 rpm (or what ever it is on an Ed) if the engine was safe to rev higher. I have a stage 3 cam in mine, and it makes power right up to the 5700rpm rev limiter, but I wouldn't really want it to rev any higher. It is a long stroke engine so the pistion velocity is very high in these engines at those revs and stresses the internals a lot. Plus I wouldn't rev mine any higher just incase things stretch and my pistons kiss my valves.

Hey guys im sorry I didnt clear this up, I have never sone those speeds on legal roads and it is for the drags and track work. I am hesitant to do those high speeds mainly just for the reason that I love my car and dont want to wreck it at all! One of the main reasons i want to remove the limitor is because im a modder. I lvoe playing with things and that would be just one more thing that i can say I have done to my baby. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the help (ie. XR ECU) Will that ECU just do a swap with the one which is already in it? and how much am i looking at?
Thanks again guys

get an XR tailshaft, get it balanced. Put in a tailshaft loop, and then put the manual XR computer in, and you should be able to go over 180kmh. Failing that a chiptorque chip will remove the limiter. The loop and XR tailshaft is just a safety thing though

Yep. Listen to this bloke mate. Couldn't agree more.

Besides, I find that most Falcs dont actually make any more power past 5,000rpm so there's no need to rev them that hard (Hornets is obviously an excption) ...

Dirty, long, one piece tail shafts
