was trying to calculate the payback time for an LPG conversion but i need some info from those who drive a duel fuel I6 :)

Q. compared to petrol consumption, what %age extra consumption
would an lpg vehicle use in ltrs/100kms, 20%, 30% ?
(or more simply how many KMS can you get out of a tank of LPG,
of how many LTRS in size ?)

Q. what is the current installation cost of an lpg system in an EF I6 ?

Q. what sort of %age should you run on petrol to keep the injectors
working, 10%, 20% ?

to see the spreadsheet, cut an past the lines between ####### into a file with .csv extension and open in excel. You may have to open up some columns to see the text :D

I get 400kms around town on gas with putting my foot down most of the time, and highway i get about 520kms thats with a 68ltr gas tank, its dual fuel, tickford factory gas 98 AU Futura I6. And after every tank of gas i run the car on pulp 98 ron for about 50kms to keep the injectors all good.

have had 550km with ticky sytem on highway and 450km local.

with after market system, looking at abt 400km highway, and 350km local.
i always start on petrol and switch after abt 5-10km to gas.
and use abt 10ltrs of bp 98 once a month.

thanks for the info guys.

i get between 500-550 kms on petrol with mixed highway/city driving which i gather isn't too bad but at $1.40/ltr today, it's getting too much.

so it seems that with lpg i should get around 400-420 for the same drive which is a 30% consumption penalty but offset by the cheaper price of the stuff :D.

lpg now seems to be the way to go but what type of systems are available and what is the install cost these days - it's been a while since i last looked into it :(

cheers, itchione

i would be at all surprised the price of gas will increase soon and taxis will be subsidised.... the goverment has to get the taxes from somewhere. now im not completely against gas but my next car will be dedicated gas depending on prices and quality of gas (propane/butane ratios) to me its not worth spending around $2-3000 to change over and only have the car for another couple of years...

Well,

I've got a Parnell LPG Injection system on my EB II I6. Which isn't in the greatest of health, almost @ 250k kms on it now. My lpg economy is very close to petrol economy with this system, I avg around 14.5/100 with lpg and 13/100 petrol.

Get about 420kms avg to 60ltrs around town on lpg, with reasonably heavy right boot. I can pull about 475 if i peddle it lightly, on the HWY i can get between 500 - 550 out of it, depending on if i use the cruise or not, which is currently broken, the cable is RS. :(

I do about 900kms a week avg atm, and my Gas install was $3146 inc GST. It starts on petrol and switches over pretty quick, i use about $10 a month or so for starting. I paid my conversion off pretty fast, about 8 mths.

Avg prices over the last few mths to fill up per tank, based on 60 ltrs a fill, i never run the tanks below having 8 ltrs or so in them.

Petrol Fill about $ 72
LPG Fill about $ 23
*******************
Saving per tank $ 49
Tanks per week 2.25

Very substantial savings. If your keeping the car for 1.5 yrs or more, then an LPG conversion will save you quite a bit if your doing similar kms to me!

Cheers

ToranaGuy
