G'day everyone,
Thanks to all the advice I received about swapping the diff in my ef fairmont to an LSD 3.45. :)
My next question is,
I don't have a tickford head in the car and I'm running the standard ecu with the new 3.45 lsd ive had installed. would it be a good idea to put an "ef fairmont ghia/ tickford" ecu in my fairmont? As I have heard that the shift points are different from standard 3.23 to the ghia 3.45.

Because last night I put an ef fairmont ghia ecu in and the car was running very sluggish. When I change from "park" to "drive" the rpm drops very low almost to the point were it feels like the car is going to stall :?
Does it take time for the ghia ecu to learn the spec of the car etc??
Or
Do I have to install 300kph fuel pressure reg also to go with the ecu??

Sorry about the novel, but any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Cheers

Ah ok, so you obviously tried your gli with an xr6 ecu.
Did you find when you first installed the Xr ecu it ran abit rough at first and Does it stop running so s**t after a period of time?
I only ask cause I will be eventually be getting a tickford, wade or crow camshaft fitted.
Cheers

yeah that would just be the ecu re learning it does the same thing if you take the battery cables off for a certain period of time

If you're not feeling like it's got any big issues now with the std ECU and 3.45 diff then I wouldn't worry about going to an ECU that's programmed for the 3.45 - ie. going from 3.23 to 3.45 then you very likely won't have too much problem - ie. the std ECU might tend to hold gears a tad but not enough to be a pain and in fact might make it feel more responsive.

If you'd gone from 3.08 to 3.45 or from 3.23 to 3.7 or 3.9 then it'd probably be feeling pretty wierd - but 3.23 to 3.45 should be fine.

Nothing else will make going to the 3.45 type ecu worthwhile - ie. there's no hidden reserve of power there - it's simply down to how comfortable you feel with the way it's shifting.
