The other day I was reading zoom..............I know shoot me, I dont buy I get them given to me. Well anyways I was flicking through the adverts and I saw an ad for Magnaflow Catalytic convertor claiming that the high flow cat in there range is 50% more effective then other brands on the market whilst still be totally legal................Has anybody herd of these guys?

50% more effective at reducing emmissions or by providing less of a bottleneck?

By the way, it is well documented that the Ford I6 cat is one of the highest flowing available...

I have one in my car and it outflows the standard ford cat easily.

Be prepared to pay a bit for them, they are not cheap.

Magnaflow is well known for performance and quality, I have them in my XR8 and would get them again. As South said, the I6 cat flows quite well and is comparable if not better than many general brand 'high flow' cats, but I would lay money on the Magnaflow cat outflowing the factory cat by a decent margin (not that you will generally need it or see any gains unless on a heavily modified engine).

Yeah thats the one majic cat, oh thanks I could remember the name.

I realise that most of the cars can do 10sec passes but I like real world achievable stuff, not showing $30k into a motor to get it to run a 8.79sec pass

The problem with Zoom is that Martin Donnan thinks he invents everything for the first time. He talks like his word is gospel. This is very bad, because the masses take his information as being 100% correct.

Most of his info he has gathered from, advertisers, forums, here-say.

For example, he has always preached that truck intercoolers don't work for many s**t reasons. In reality if he said that they were good imagine what his advertisers would do??

I will admit that Zoom is the best Australian mag available but that is not a glowing recomendation.

If you want something that is a little more informative, go read mags like Car Craft, Engine Masters, Hot Rod, Popular Hotrodding. Admitedly the Yank mags are advertiser driven but there is 10 times more to learn out of them.
