I was reading this in the I6 mod, post sticky
Quote:
EF-EL can have a custom mandrel bent pipe made to replace the restrictive plastic pipe between the throttle body and airbox. These look good and increase flow for around $150.

And was wondering does any one know where i can buy this for my au xr6? or know of anyone i can get in touch with who can make this for me?

cheers

Any exhaust shop should be able to mock one up for you. Hmmm why not try some PVC Painted black :D

It isn't the size of the mandrel bend mate it is the fabrication required to do it worst luck.

I just went to repco, grabbed a 3 inch chrome induction pipe for $30. I didnt change the whole intake tube just the one pice from the airbox back around 30cm. thats the only restrictive part anyway. It works well. Doesnt get hot or anything. Why go all the way to the throttle body?

if you check out the whole length of pipe work from the air box to the throttle it has a few indents that disturbs the air flow, won't make much difference but the mandrel bend pipe looks good and flows well.

i will be dyno testing the difference between the standard and a 3" mandrel bend pipe tomorrow, will post in a new thread when we get done.

If you look on the EL/AU pipe where it goes in to a smaller diameter just after the air box, I think this is to create a venturi! Similar to that that is fitted in the EF air box lid, which Autospeed claim flows better because of, but this time it's in the piping instead. Might be a thought to compare an EF and EL/AU air box lid on the 3" piping aswelll...

the current box lid has a bell mouth opening to assist in air flow.

the new opening for the mandrel bend also has a bell mouth so it should work well.
