JUST CURIOUS
will a xd xe or xf manual pedal box fit a ea eb ed onwards or are they different as i have about 4 x series manual cable type pedal boxes but no e series ones

also ife found out that a xf flywheel is the same bolt pattern as ea-au but im looking at changing the complete pedal box rather than a malwood setup

anyone have any light to shed on this?

Pedal boxes are very different and will not fit either way round.
EA-D is different, but with a small mod can be made to fit.

XF Flywheel ISNT the same bolt pattern as E series.
One is metric and one is imperial spacing.
It might fit and bolt up ok and appear to work but the bolts will be under stress and will eventually let go with fairly ordinary results.
Just like when people use to put Commodore wheels onto H series Kinswoods. They fitted ok you could bolt them up but the wheel would eventually come off when the studs sheered off!

Just for the sake of accuracy :

XF Flywheels from 86 onward (86DA Block) are in fact Metric, as are the cranks. In these models you are able to use later model cranks as well (E Series). The 86DA Block is the crossover block similar to the EL Hybrid block

There's a new thing to learn for the day. EL crank into late XF block, what about the pistons an rods? And I've heard the heads fit too? Or is that crap, cos I wasn't too convinced when i was bein told about it lol.

you can stick a ED log manifold and wiring loom on a XF EFI car and runs the same but little better torque same stud pattern on the intake ports as the 4.0l

Why bother, easy enough to use XH ute mounts & drop a later OHC engine into the old Xf, if your going to be messing around with engines in a Xf.

we had my old ED intake manifold laying in the shed and looked at a XF efi motor sitting in a wreck i have that had no intake and decided to see if it fitted IT DID lol :shock:

For curiosity fair enough, i can understand that, I'm a curious cat myself.

I wonder if the clutch peddle is the same for both peddle boxes?

I have a clutch fork in my EB Ghia with a Xf part number on it just FYI. The gearbox & bell housing are E series, removed from a factory ED GLI 5spd, that had ford workshop history.

Yes, very curious... A pushrod engine with the later log manifold in it (or even a BBM with no butterflies) those XF alloy covers don't look too bad either.
I'd do it if I had the bits/time and money. Although we could say that about everything! Lol.

The pedal I wouldn't be surprised if it was same from xy to BA! Lol, ford liked keeping on a good thing when it was on one, starter motors and oil filters.. But seriously the XF to Ed and possibly el all had similar seating positions so they probably modified an XF pedal box when designing the EA.

Pedal is the same - box isnt, but thats not such a big issue now with people modding boxes. I think if I ever did it again Id get the mal wood kit, but then weld it onto the box.

Didnt know about the manifold.

And to answer the question about why youd go a crossy over the 4.0....

I had a 250 before the 4.0s were out. I loved it. It was a torque monster, and responded really really well to LPG with the EFI manifold. It didnt rev like the 4.0.. but it had character....

Always thought it would have been a great engine with the 4 speed auto behind it.

I guess thats similar to why do people run 8's when 6's do the same... or 6;'s when turbo 4s do it. Its what works for me ;)

of course, I just pulled my 86DA blocked 250 out of my XF... so I can slot an EFI 5.0 in there

Your right there Nigel,
the crossflow I reckon is a crazy engine.
They last forever, tough as nails and heaps of torque.
A mate had a ute he'd rebuilt a engine for, he was into speedway and all that and for $500 did this engine and although it would chew lifters like there's no tomorow, It would idle like a freak an was a torque monster.

Ive already sold the engine - complete MPI 86DA with ECU ;)

5.0 doesnt work out - whos smokin wot!

Yeh I said that to him but the cam was designed to run at 2500 and didn't like the street idle.
