I know the gear box's are designed not to knacker their selves or the engine by preventing a down gear at too high a speed but i'm talking like taking it from drive to third doing 800rpm @ 60hmph-1 (or something like that). That kinda thing, the revs don't rise and the speed don't drop, however when i put some throttle on the revs rise up past the revs before to get the same speed (ie 1100rpm @ 60kmph-1). If you get what i'm saying here.

ive manually shifted my ef for the last 100,000k's and now its on 167,000 and its slips a bit between 3rd to 4th but thats it. its fine though. it got damaged the most towing a camper trailer around australia without a transmission cooler... :D

If you're towing anything over about a tonne, dont use D which is overdrive or you'll burn out your transmission quite easily unless you're on a smooth flat and level high/freeway and you're doing 100km/h or greater to ensure the torque converter clutch is locked up.

If you're doing over 65km/h but under 100km/h and the road isn't level, keep the trans in third which is a 1:1 ratio and keeps the torque converter clutch locked. It will not harm your auto one little bit and you DO NOT need a transmission cooler as it will stress your auto LESS than keeping it in fourth and having hte torque converter slipping and burning itself up.

It's below your torque converter stall speed. The box has changed to 3rd but the torque converter wont drive the engine any faster becasue the rpm is too low.

when changing down the gears in the auto, say going back to second, if it don't click in straight away, tap the accel pedal .

Ill second that...

Kickdowns are a bit easier on the box than a Forcedown using the shifter...

Nothing much will come of doing downshifts, just make sure that your box is well serviced and you will be fine! ;)

Yeah but it does'nt drive the engine under any circumstances. do u think that maybe the torque converters wasted or the tranny needs a service? the tranny is way over due, but its one of those i'd want to do, just got a million other things i got to do as well.

well of course it does when i put the throttle on and the car goes faster but like if the wheels are moving faster than the tranny it won't. if you see what i mean
