A guy I know got yellow stickered for having 8.5" wide rims on his EL. He managed to got off on that one by telling them (at the pits) that the EL GT comes with 8.5" rims as standard and therefore any EL can have 8.5" rims fitted.

I've only had insurance problems with my GT rims, until I kindly pointed out, on there OWN computer screen that they are a factory 'option' lol. No copper problems, although AFAIK the ACT is pretty lax.

I'm not suprised that it works

Personally I wouldn't rely on it holding up because its too ambiguous and open to interpretation.. whats factory fitted for that model and whats not etc.

DPI could always try to nail you by trying to be more specific I guess and say it only applies to the same year, model and spec machine etc. Like only EL GT's can have them since only EL GT's came with factory 8.5's which would mean putting them on an EL XR wouldn't be legal since it isnt an EL GT etc if it ever cam to court I doubt it would hold up tho because its so unspecific. an EL is an EL is an EL

The other thing they might try to catch you out with is the tyre placard, they could try to use that as proof of what was a factory fitment or option.. think the EL falcons (gli/futura) only go to 7.5 on the placard from memory?

I'd be pretty p****d if some inspector tried to deny me a roadworthy after I just shelled out major $$$ for 18x8.5's or something and was forced to go back to steelies
