If you can afford it get a AU XR scoop and a K & N air filter then get a 2.5 exhaust and some pacemakers extractors, should set you back under a grand, should have a nice growl to it and a bit more up and go. :D

It's the snorkal. This is where your engine gets all it's air from. If you pop your bonnet and check it out, your fist would be bigger than the opening. If you get a Tickford one, it will let more air into your engine, which means better throttle response and more fuel burnt, which results in slightly more power. It's just an intake so don't expect large gains. If you want the most from a intake, i'd suggest in going for a Tickford Snorkal (which is almost double the size of the stock one at the moment) - $30, or even better and get an SS Inductions - $270, then get a high-flow filter (K&N or BMC - $120), then get a pipe from the Throttle body to the airbox. That there is probably the ultimate intake setup, but you probably won't get the most out of it until your pulling over 150rwkw.

Cat-back exhaust - $330 fitted.
Pacemakers - $400 fitted.
Tickford Snorkal - $30.
K&N - $120.
Shift Kit - $50.
Wade Cam - $150.

(And if your interested in getting a pipe from the T/B to Airbox, check out this link to get one resonably cheap: http://www.fordmods.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1073)

With that there, you should be able to blow most cars.

Yes it does mean more fuel burnt but ever so little, but with the 4L, it would actually increase your fuel economy as many have found - as long as you don't boot it all the time. :)

Although you will get to a point where you do mods, to give you more power. And you can't get that power without using more fuel. So don't expect to do mods and still get the same fuel usage. As it's just never gonna happen. Extractors & exhaust, will give you better fuel economy as it frees up the engine, and allows the gases to escape easier. But once you get in to porting and cams, then your car's power will skyrocket at the cost of fuel economy.

LG: okay thanks mate i understand now. for now i'll just be changing the snorkel to an tickford xr8 snorkel and the air filter to a k&n panel air filter.
but, i have noticed one problem. i have a EF Fairmont 1996 with a EL Fairmont grille. this EL grille is fake. it looks as if it is larger but in closer inspection the gaps are closed up and no air can enter through the grille and into the engine bay or the snorkel or even radiator. is this normal for all EL Fairmont grilles or a design flaw?
