also i just noticed today a little smoke on start up(just a puff when it first fires up) . im particularly worried as this engine is only 5300kms old and DEFINATLY not thrashed. is this 'running rich'?

depending on what colour the smoke is. if its white your burnig oil, if its black then its just a we suspected that ur running rich which could be due to dribbly injectors. is it hard to start? (cranks over a little while before it starts)

I've felt this phenomenon in most cars I've driven. When they are relatively cold they feel more powerful. I attribute this to heatsoak and ignition timing changes (as the car gets warmer).

i thought burning oil made blue smoke?? from what i have been told blue smoke is burning oil, black is overfueling and white is running lean...
i am more than happy to be corrected though :D

ha ha. mmm, that would be fun but engine is stil relatively knew (jjust clocked 5000kms) dont want to over do it to early.

smoke seems to be black, also if im sitting at idle for a period of time (red light) the car starts to stink like fuel...if this is running rich then how do i fix it? i only use BP ultimate (98 ron) so i dont think injector cleaner will work (if problem could be injectors)

i may be wrong with the colour of burning oil but i do know that black smoke is running rich and normally once an engine has reached 1000km then it should be driven like it is for the rest of its life. so hurry up and blow those damn cobwebbs out, also that smell of fuel could be a fuel leak maybe at the pressure regulator or something. i would have that checked asap man.

i would hook the car up to a computer scan tool and see what all the sensors are doing, and dont use that bp crap cos they use octane boosts to boost up the octane rating if you want decent fuel use vortex 98 cos i run the fairmont on vortex and she goes like a dream.
