Going up to the coast yesterday my s**t ed's temp gauge slowly creeped up to the hot side.
I noticed it before the light came on.
I then turned the A/C off, and let it sit at idle where it then came down.

I basically couldn't go over 90 km/h on the highway or it would creep up to the red again.
Why would it do that?
I just flushed the cooling system out yesterday and got a new thermostat from ford.

incorrect thermostat temp?
impellor on pump worn?

well the car got a bit warm last week,so i thought i'd drain the coolant, flush it out, refill it, and replace thermostat.
do teh clutch fans have a tendency to slip over time, or do they lock up when they fail?

msman - i used different coolant, but i had already flushed the old stuff out, so no contamination if that's what you're saying.

the ford thermostats have a hole at the top so this should not have happened.

i'm leaning towards a clogged radiator, and it looks pretty original.
the coolant wasn't the best when i bought it either.

207,000km.
I can get a new one for around $170, or get this one flushed and pressure tested.

Yeah, I agree, get a newby. Whereabouts in Brisvegas are you? Cause a bloke out in Ipswich does the bigger (3core?) radiators for about the same price fitted and guaranteed.
