they are the same head... why wouldn't it bolt up? The dipstick tube may have a different bend... But other than plugs what would stop it from bolting up? Its only the ISC plug that doesn't reach anyway isn't it? And he'll need to add the solenoid and that for the BBM to work... Put in an EL computer and thats it...

Not sure why you think it wont...

HAHA +1 lol i had a bloke near me (well actually 100k away in the next town) say to me a BBM motor wont work in a non BBM car and yet i turned up at his place to prove it and take him for a drive with not only a BBM but a AU VCT motor haha yet to say he was shocked (when my car was a stock AU VCT and 5 speed) he has since changed his mind....

Will it bolt straight on? Yes.
Will it run without mods, ie electrical, solenoid & EL ECU? NO!

Can the car have those mods done to make it run? YES

End of story, ed2dy4..... Your mate needs to be smacked in the head with the bbm! It won't just "bolt on & run", but it can be made to work with EFFORT, and the fordmods tech guide on the conversion!

Cheers

ToranaGuy

I wouldnt even say it takes any great effort. If you have the smarts enough to know that when turning a spanner, righty is tighty and lefty is loosey, then you should be able to swap a manifold over and hook up a few plugs. I think I forgot to add that you need to swap the dipstick tube as a step on my how to guide.
ed2dy4 mate, I wrote that step by step guide as I was doing the conversion. It is easy to do, and if you also convert to thermo fans your ED will be just as pokey as an EL. My EB is about 25% better than what it was with the log manifold and clutch fan, uses less fuel, makes more power and more importantly more torque. There are no modifications to the head or engine, and if you have a wrecked EL then everything you need will be there. My advice to you if you are contemplating the conversion is use the EL, not the EF even though the manifolds are the same, as you need to use the computer from the donor car, and the EF computer wont run in an ED as the EF has coil pack ignition and the EA - ED and EL use a Dizzy. I think you should tell your friend to stfu and research things before he opens his yap. If you have any queries, drop us a PM.

Edit, I think I should stfu before I open my yap. Youre mate is dead right, you can bolt them up direct to the head, and not hook up the BBM solenoid and the car will run. To extract all the goodies from the BBM you need the ecu from the donor car etc, a little wiring modifications and about 6 hours of time to spare start to finish. He doesnt need a smartlock bypass as both cars have smartlock. You are the one who is proven to be wrong.

I re-quoteTroyman... Your mates retarded...

Is he a Holden fan by chance?

Tell him he can't do it, and if he dosnt believe you then tell him to proove you wrong!
We all know your right, and most of all YOU know your right.

I have thought about the results of removing the butterflys and fitting the BBM and pedal only, probably be useless though, would mess with airflow too much.

Any ideas on that Troyman?

it will bolt up and run, you just need to change to EF/EL throttle cable and pedal (ED cruise cable will still work with some bodgeing) lengthen a few wires and change a plug or two on the EA-ED injection loom however it will not actually function properly (ie change over the runners) unless you change to an EL ECU (add in the solenoid and a knock sensor). I got halfway there, fitted BBM (set to long runners only) screwed in the knock sensor (wires and plug are cable tied out of the way) and made up a thermofan loom (currently being operated by a davies craig thermofan switch) but lost interest before fitting the solenoid and EL ECU, smartlock is a non issue in EB-ED as the EL ECU will work with their BBM. you can also mix and match EF/EL parts only EL bit you really need is the ECU

mine runs about as well as it ever did with the old log manifold, there is a difference between having it stuck on long or short runners but its hard to tell conclusively as the ECU takes a while to learn around the change so it just stays on long runners.

so is there anyone here who couldnt get their EA-ED to run a BBM on the EA-ED ECU or are people just quoting what someone else said their girlfriends manicurists brothers mechanics doctors eyedoctor told them :)

JOSE,

It can be run off EA-ED computer with the addition of an RPM switch... Such thing can be bought from as a kit from Jaycar, you make it up and set it to the right rpm and use it to trigger the solenoid... MSD do a similar already made up part that does the same thing...

Trouble with running an EA-ED computer with a BBM is that the maps in the computer are for a log manifold... So your best to run the EL computer that has the right maps to give max benefit and then you have the added advantage of having that trigger pin for the solenoid...

Hence why most people go for the EL computer over the rpm switch...

Cheers,
Tim

It would Probably drop performance if put on with no rpm switch and only use the long runners, and the map sensor is a good point too.

It'd be pointless.

I'm gonna do the proper (ie with el computer etc) conversion on mine when I decide on a block and head combo.

Forgive my ignorance here, but do EB's have a knock sensor?
