Hi all,
I'm new here as you can see.
I found out about this forum from my fiancé, and i'm very glad she found it.
Even though this is my first post, i've read through quite a few other threads, and am amazed with the amount of fantastic information you guys have about these great cars.

Anyway, on to the subject at hand.

I'm trading in my crappy old 93 Magna SE station wagon for a 98 EL GLi (got a personal loan to pay out the rest).
Before the Magna I had a 93 ED XR8 (manual) that I loved to death. Unfortunately I had to get rid of it for family reasons.

Is there anything I should look out for in particular with the EL?
I read an article about it that said that pretty much all of them need the head gasket replaced at some point in their life, but the 2nd hand dealer that i'm getting it from doesn't know if it's been replaced yet or not.

It has 220000km's on the clock, which is a fair bit, but I can live with that.
After the test drive i'm pretty confident that the engine is spot on, good interior (although it's missing the 2 cover buttons on the steering wheel for the cruise control on/off), smooth ride and handling. It unfortunately doesn't have ABS, but once again, I can live with that.

I'm going to be tempted in the future to start adding a few mods, but i'll have to start saving some $$$ first.
I just can't wait to get behind the wheel of a Ford again!
;)

hey hey, i have a 97 EL falcon GLI, pretty much the same i guess, its got 149000kms on it, at about 150000k things need to be replaced on ELs from what iv heard, head gasket, fuel pump, radiator hose, distributor (just did my distributor and coil) problem with mine, the clock was tampered with so im not exactly sure how many ks its done, its about 10000 out i think, as the dist and coil needed to be replaced at 143000, anyways, EL's GREAT CARS! got a pic of it? does it have alloys or anything yet? take a look at mine :) iv just done silver grey mesh in the grill and around the badge, looks bloody hot! got 6 speakers in her, and im getting a sub soon (been saying that for ages!) and i guess WELCOME TO THE CLUB! this site is the BEST!

Haven't taken any photo's as yet, but i'll post them up when I do.
I pick it up on Friday morning.
It doesn't have alloys, but that will be one of the first things I want to do to it.
I really love the look of the BA XR 18" rims. They're fantastic! And ideally i'd like to score myself a set of those for the EL.
I'm a member of the FordXR6Turbo forum aswell, so I may be able to buy some 2nd hand off one of those guys.
The car is a dark navy blue (i'm not sure what Ford call the colour, but dark blue will do).

hehe dark blue will do, love it! yeah alloys are good :) one of the first things i did, washer blue lights were first, then stereo, the alloys, then blue headlights, then the replacement of speakers, then blue neons in the foot wells, oh and FPV seat covers, then the silver grill i think there was more as well, cant remember, at the moment im replacing my front right gaurd, as its got a huge dint in it from scrapping a pole...

the BA XR8 rims won't bolt straight onto your EL i'm afraid mate - you'll have to a) get hub adaptors or b) get the e-series copies - which i've got on my car! :P

My old EL had 280,000k on it and not a problem. They can accumulate huge kms before any major problems. If you want to put BA rims on it you'll need to get some spacers though.

nice buy mate! good luck with it all!

start your mods along! cheapest of course first to the 'argh' ones later on :p im sure everyone wil give u a helping hand!

personally i suggest give the car itself a service, plugs, filter and oil and maybe a transmission service so you know its all done and good

ba 18" xr rims machine finished ones are about $1800 with tyres + $200 for hub adapters so keep a look out.. second hand there tuff to find! (alternatively u can get the 17s which look the same but fit the el offset)

im sure we'll catch u at some syd/wollongong event soon and welcome aboard dude!

Yeah I think it's due for a service.

How often do you guys have events around Wollongong/Sydney?

Thanks for the warm welcome all!
:D

They're actually giving you money for it?

Quite common for this to happen, you can pick up a new set of switches for around $50 from the wreckers. I have EF ones in mine, all I could get at the time.

Yeah Ford call it Navy Blue, Paint code is N9. My wagon is the same.
