I am trying to change the oil seal behind the inhibtor switch (the white switch attached to the passeger side of the transmission), when the switch itself came open. A tiny black spring fell out - and i have NO IDEA where it goes inside the switch...

Anyone....? Anyone.......

Ive patched it...but used a bit too much force trying to get it off the spindle. The switch is seized on there pretty solid....dunno how im gonna get it off. Doused it in WD, see how we go later...

This s**t always happens at 12.10 on a saturday......faark.

As was said, just change it, cant be to much. If you put it back together correctly, and it still doesnt work, you will get stranded somewhere, on a Sunday :D

These buggers always rust onto the shafts. Use a chisel or whatever to remove the bits left, then polish the shaft before fitting an new switch. Make sure you put a smear of never seize or grease on the shaft before you fit the new switch. The new one should slip on easily, if it doesn't get polishing again. Forcing a new switch on can cause damage to the internals.

Sounds like youve done it before smally.....and that F**k is rusted on there good.

So now time for stupid questions.... Can you change the seal without draining the tranny fluid?...and what did you use to 'polish the shaft'? (yeah. i know, dont even start on me)

Yep, had them rusted on plenty of times at work! The switch is also the gear position indicator for the PCM, so its important you dont damage it. I normally use CRC and some wet n dry paper to polish the shaft. It can take a while!
