I tried putting ear up to screen, but then have trouble navigating with the mouse to the correct points in the video. The only noise I get is hum. And my ear got warm.

This could be due to ultra blocked oil pathway and tappets in my brain failing.

the head letters are HTP, and every nut/bolt is on tight and exhaust is dry with no smoke, was water on it the other day but now gone.

Compression test easiest way to tell if head is good or not, quick 15 minute check.

Almost sounds like the valve is hitting the top of the piston, because its pretty loud

That does not sound healthy at all. What did your mechanic say after he heard that? Sounds more than lifter noise. Time to pull that head I think and check. At least pull the rocker cover and check the lifters. If it is lifter noise, (collapsed lifter) one or more will be that loose it will be easy to find them. If every thing looks ok on top, pull the head.

Lack of oil in top end for sure (having heard it last night on old mans computer).. Possibly even as far as damaged cam chain guides or tensioner, but definately issues with lifters...

This is what killed my white fairmont after head work and dodgy mechanic blocking an oil gallery or similar. Oil pressure seemed to be fine at idle, but as soon as engine was working oil pressure went right up.

Remember, oil pressure is taken from the block AFTER the pump but BEFORE it goes to the head (which is where a lot of tricky little oil arteries, viens and capilaries hide out...)

Ah well, like SWC says - Take the top cover off, lift a whole lot of 10mm bolts that hold the cam gear down and have a looksee.

And like I say - Buy another motor for $400 and be prepared!

Hmmm. But what does it sound like now, and what is the oil pressure showing?
And were the spark plugs rusty?

valve/tappet noise still there,

gotta watch the oil pressurr gauge again...

and the old spark plugs were like overally burnt toast,

...notice I have to fix a hose that is leaking coolant near the coil pack but even with the leak the car doesn't over heat.

will post a picture of the old spark plugs soon...

The dreaded heater hose leak...

In other words, the car has been run out of water, overheated, blown head gasket or warped head.

Heater hose leak around coil packs - Stick left (passenger) side of car as high in the air as you can and throw an old tree stump in underneath so you don't kill yaself. You'll get it, probably skin ya knuckles and swear a few times at how awkward it is, but you'll get it. There's a tap where it splits into two pipes - One goes to firewall (heater) other one goes around back of motor and goes to water pump at front, drivers side.

Those sparkie things have a rusty thread with visible water on. Mine don't have that and they are sitting under a bonnet with a 16x12" hole in it... AND IT IS RAINING! This means you most likely have water getting into the system from another source.

And unless you're secretly sitting on a water injected highly boosted weapon the only water I know of in engines is usually reserved for cooling (or heating the heater....)

Once again. Find a cheap motor near you (or, if you have space - A complete spare car... Start modifying stuff...!)

Jeeez, some of these motors a bit expensive. Maybe ask HuggieBear or someone for his spare!

hey guys just went for drive up to the adelaide hills and the oil gauge didn't move from the 2 line from the bottom 0 and the coolant was on the A.....

is this anyway a crack/warp gasket or head has wouldn't it overheat like crazy, like a hose is is leaking on the passenger side but only little....might get a compression gauge and take the rocker cover off on the weekend.

600 is a bit steep for an EF motor, we can get BA low k motors for 650 in Adelaide. Athol Park Ford auto wreckers.

600 is a LOT steep for an EF motor! Agreed there matey!

Well, mate - You spark plugs show signs of water, and that water has to be coming from somewhere.

Since you told us that the oil pressure was way high and the engine sounds dicedly dodgy all you have done is change the spark plugs....

And now the oil pressure is fine? That's hard to work out to be frank.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable than myself could shed some light on that.

SWC?!

I don't like the look of the plugs either but I would like to see them in a daylight shot with no flash. The light colour which does look like water contamination is a bit uneven for my liking. If it was water it would be all white and there would be stuff all build up. You can see white on the thread which makes me think Flash distortion from the camera. Better pic and I will give an opinion.

1)Do a compression test and find out, especially on that cylinder.

2) What does your header tank smell like? does it smell of exhaust etc. Get a radiator place to do a test on the coolant for Cabon Monoxide.

3) Does the exhaust blow water and I don't mean just a little vapour on a cold start.

4) Have you pulled the rocker cover off and checked the lifters?

With what you have shown so far I would suspect that you have a stuffed head, possibly a valve problem, definatly a stuffed lifter (If you are Lucky). Possibly a damaged Piston.

What is the oil like.

PS Stay away from your Mechanic, he is dangerous if he didn't see a problem after hearing that engine, he is a moron and should stay working on Commy s**t Boxes.

can say 3) no water comes from the exhaust at all.

rest will get back to you.
