When at WOT throughtout 2nd gear.. upon shifting to 3rd.. there is a definite loss in power.. the car just doesn't pull anymore. Any ideas on how to improve the power in that area.. it's around 140km/h and in 3rd gear. Car is auto.
It's just at the initial point after shifting into 3rd.. a few seconds into 3rd it starts pulling again... not sure what's going on. |

...wtf you doin at 140, and why are you travelling at 140 often enough to have it s**t you enough to post?

At the local drag strip. Just before I cross the line I always have to change into 3rd.. and I swear it's killing my times.

What transmission and diff ratio are you running? |

Why is everyone being all sus? I have time slips. Hows about we keep to the topic at hand.
I have 4 spd auto and 3.23 diff. 2nd will go to about 140km/h.. problem is.. the car can't overcome wind/weight in 3rd at that speed.. so it takes ages to speed up to 144km/h which is where I cross the line. If I keep my foot down past the line, it starts to pick up acceleration again... like I've been saying.. it's just at that initial point where the car is in 3rd. |

being an auto with tall ratio's and a relativly tall 3.23 diff isnt going to be too good for excelleration beyond a certain point especialy depending on how worked the motor is..

I think that's your problem. That you're car is running out to 140km in second gear.
Is it just me, or does that seem strange??? |

are you manually shifting on the strip?
do not exceed 75km/h in first, don't exceed 115km/h in second & do not exceed 160km/h in third. manual shift to second at 75km/h then shift to third on 115km/h

yes. I run 3.7's and get a more sensible 100-110km/h by memory out of second, and 3rd pulls nicely. I pulled around 150km/h in 3rd over the line at heathcote to run a 15.3.

I pulled around 150km/h in 3rd over the line at heathcote to run a 15.3. is yours a manual tho dude i know in my auto, altho i shouldnt, 2nd gear certainly does 120km/h in the auto EF XR6...not that this help you adam....and in saying he needs high gearing guys isnt this only semi correcting the issue...he's saying there is major loss occuring with the 2nd to 3rd shift....so adding higher gears apart form possible further loss of traction either off the line or thru 1st to 2nd change if he has a high stall..will still mean hes gonna have to change to third only he will be doing it further from the line? As the higher gears will equal quicker acceleration mean 3rd change will be required sooner altho spose he would be getting power transfer thru drivetrain to ground quicker...hrrm maybe

ive got auto (for a little while longer), and a 3.23 lsd, i have the same thing when it shifts to third ~135@5600rpm (and to think my speedo undereads 5kph, dyno proven) so figure 130@5600, and lags a bit, it just drops to low in the rev range, if your sticking with the auto put in a better set of diff gears.

Is there a possibility of an auto clutch or something in the trans not working right? Im not 'all up ons' how autos work so excuse a possible silly question.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm talking about... its a definite massive weak spot.. I'm still not sure how different diff gears would help me out with this though? |
