Hey all, i should be getting my new/old xr6 engine put in within the next couple of weeks.

Just wondering about the precautions i should be taking when starting it up for the first time, as it has been sitting in a garage for the past 4 months with no oil etc in it.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Nath.

Crank it over for a bit without fuel or spark, to circulate the oil throughout the motor before you start it. Apart from that, just make sure you change whatever seals and stuff you can while its out, check it all over and obviously give it fresh plugs etc.

you can crank it a bit if your worried about it. but not really necessary..
the last engine i did was sitting for 4 years and all i did was fit the engine added oil, coolant sprayed a little oil in the bores and fired it up. got oil pressure pretty much straight away.
no problems..

Thanks for the tips guys.

also just a quick question off topic, as its an XR6 Engine it has a bit more performance over the standard i6, but if im only using my gli ecu will that mean it will only be as quick as the engine it originally had in it?

Find yourself an XR6 ECU so that you get the correct fuel maps for the different camshaft/fuel reg and head set up...however you should be able to get away with standard ECU and should feel a bit better.

Also look for an EL Fairmont Ghia ECU, as these also had the tickford maps.

i see in your sig Phong that you have an EL ecu with a J3 Chip in it. Could i just do that instead of finding another ecu?
