For thsoe guys that are buying AU engines from the wreckers etc, are you pulling them apart to see that what they told you is correct (low km wise) or are you just taking their word for it and running with what ever warranty.

Just curious as a wrecker could tell you anything in order to get rid of a motor

Thats about what I was thinking. How could you tell if it was or wasn't.
I'd love to put a $500 40,000K AU motor in my EFII.

Yeah, well I took the head off mine to put on my EB head. You could still see the honing marks in the bores, and the overall it was a very clean unit inside/out.

You run that chance whatever motor you buy I guess...

But this thing is running sweet as, has good compression, doesn't use any oil, and the oil is staying nice and clean.

pulling it apart still isn't going to tell you if it's a low km engine.
it will tell you the condition.
but a low km poorly looked after engine could very well be in worse condition the well looked after high km engine.

but thats the risk you run with second hand engines

This is true. Good condition generally = low milage (you can teal from stuff like taper wear and as has been said before honing marks and ring condition. A motor in this condition generally should be one that has low milage.

Sorry to take emphasis off the thread.

Not at all. This threads turning into a real wake-up call for people looking at a second hand engine. Some good tips I wouldn't have thought of looking for.

f**k this s**t im over my car in a huge way...........

Thursday last week, the engine just blew its cool again, no idea why, it had been fine for 6 or so months then it goes......

I have a 12 month warrenty on the engine, should I take it back and crack it at them.....well ask them to fix it, or speak to NATRAD people and see if it was a cooling related thing.
