EB's...god damn there hard to get a good intake for, currently i have the XH snorkel,KnN panel filter and EA tb to airbox tube, however i want more!
so i started thinking about something new, now this is a very basic idea, however i havent seen anyone on here withit, nor read about anyone doing/recomending it. anyway, what about removing the air box, and running 3'' mandrel bent pipe from the throttle body into the empty space from the airbox, and straight up with one of the smaller, flatter pod filters on to, sticking up out of the bonnet about 2''. then it wouldnt be that hard to find a scoop off some import, just big enough to cover it (leaving the front open, obviously) anyhoo just an idea, what do you all think.

not quite what i was thinking, i meant it to stick out a little more, that way theoreticaly more COLD air.

well the scoop would lead the cold air straight to it, wouldn't it? answer - yes it would, hence the reaosn why people are putting em there... i take it you've looked at the picture of the ricey civic someone made a thread about. as that has exactly what your on about - the pod sticks through the bonnet.

no, i hadnt seen that, however that is very similar, i was thinking of havin the pod come out verticaly not horizontaly and having about 2/3 of it sticking out and using the scoop as more just to cover it (from cops) more than anything else. but back to my question, do you think it would work better than my current set up?

how does a pod go when it gets soaked with water? bad, very bad. we had this one guy tow his car in coz he decided to cut a hole in his front bar and route a pod to it. no jokes the holes was at the very bottom of the bar so this thing was too far off the ground. anyway to cut a long story short he thought it was a good idea to go driving through relativly deep puddles. yeh he bent the rods sumthing chronic

ok, well after talking to my mechnic im not going to do that anymore, as i was looking at a bbm conversion later, its not worth all the pissing around and expence, only to rip it off in a few months.
instead im gonna wait untili have the bbm on, then get the biggest KnN filter i can find (aparently AU's have a large one), then get a custom made airbox bottom that will sit the filter in there with no lid, on top of the rocker cover, (so it goes straight into the throttle body, wit very little pipping) and get a reverse facing scoop, this shoud work like the old school phase 3 etc, and create a pressure difference at the windscreen, therefore suching air in from the top near the windscreen. what do you think of that?

That would be very effective.
Most race cars get there air from the pressure differential in front of the windscreen. I'm not sure how the drastically shortened intake pipe will affect it though. Any one?

The EF/EL intake already works very well. I have measured only 15 inches of water maximum restriction with a stock EL intake and dirty standard filter. Really it's an area where there are not many gains to be made. I wouldn't spend more than $100 on it.

what do you think of that? dont want to be picky but the phase 3's didnt have a reverse scoop

I was under the impression that there was the need for a specific amount of air to be in the induction system after the filter to prevent a lack of air when the throttle was opened wide. ie Sudden accelleration. In some cars an extra canister is added to the induction to give that extra?
Just a thought.
