Ok, some of you may know that my car has been giving me the s**t lately, It would suddenly loose power, drop revs and either die or recover and be fine. If it died i was always able to re-start it and it would be fine. I replaced the TFI and the problem seemed to go away but then it happened again so the TFI improved the situation (engine died less frequently) but didnt solve it.

Tonight I went out to Kalamunda and everything was fine, when I got in my car to leave the engine started straight away, I let it warm up a bit, then as I was reversing the engine died. It would not re-start. I opened the bonnet and I could hear a very high pitched note, I couldnt see anything visably wrong but I disconnected the battery anyway. After re-connecting it there wasn't the high pitched noise and the engine started. I left and drove probably 20km's to roe hwy and tonkin cruising at 90 and the engine died, quite suddenly.

I pulled over and tried re-starting the engine but it wasnt working. I tried many times to disconnect the battery and re-connect it and try starting the engine but it wouldnt work. I tried cranking the engine for 30 seconds at a time, allowing the started motor to cool down in between attempts. None of this worked so I got a tow truck to pick me up and bring me home.

When I got home dad suggested that I attempt to start the car. It started and ran straight away, engine purring away, mocking me.

What is the problem with my car? what tests should i run to find the problem. I was thinking fuel pump but seeing as the car started when I got home (when it was COLD) that rules out the fuel pump.

will a MPi dizzy work? The car is going to be converted to MPi so I may as well put in a MPi dizzy now if it will still work with the throttle body injection

no, EFI and CFI distributors have different chopper rings in them, tho the hall effect sensor itself should be the same

i had the same symptoms as u did... the occasional stalling for no apparent reason... at cruising speed, roundabouts, hills up and down... turned out that my ecu (auto ef) at the time had started to play up n it would every few days just shut the engine down at will... had to get towed after it refused to start afterwoods.. i was usualy able to start the engine but after the 5th time the engine refused to start..

Ok could be crank angle sensor if you have coil packs or could be distributor.Have you checked for spark or fuel when your car stalls?Have encountered similar problems with a 94 xg 4L ute ended up replacing the computer and distributor.Hope that helps

I bought a dizzy off ebay, arrived two days later, and it already had a TFI on it, I had just bought a TFI from repco for $66 and this complete dizzy with TFI cost me $65 brand new delivered to my door.

Can the TFI from a CPi fit a MPi dizzy as well?
