The other day my catalytic converter collapsed, so i took the car down to my local mechanic and left it with him to fix, i returned later in the day to discover he had just cut it totally out and welded in a peice of stainless the same diameter as the exhaust and as my car is on dedicated gas he assured me this is totally legal but getting to the point, this makes a huge difference to the performance of my car, it has more power low down and just revs so much harder throught the whole rev range.

I have heard people discussing this and now i actually have driven the same car before and after i thought i would share my experience

Nice, your mechanic is an idiot.

I hope you don't mind the idea of $10,000 fines.

this is illegal and you can cop a fine of $10,000 in some states. does it have the standard exhaust or aftermarket??? cause it will be too loud with a aftermarket sports exhaust.
just a warning, not having a cat can let out harmfull gasses that you wouldnt want to breath

Also you can usually hear when a cat has had the guts knocked out of it (not sure if you can hear a similar sound when it's not there), but you get a silly tinny sounding noise.

Much better with a cat.

Your not understanding.

ALL cars are required to have a catalytic converter fitted, if you remove yours, you run the risk of hefty fines and court appearances.

Yes you get performance gains, but how much are they really worth?

you might want to lok into the legislation on this in your state, as running dedicated gas (did it come that way r was it converted) could change things.

and, its easy to test for on a road so ive been told

I think you worded that post wrong. if the car was pre 86, then it would not have had one fitted.

post 86 vehicles are required to have one installed/run on unleaded petrol.

so yes any e series falcon etc will have one fitted standard.
Might be an idea to check with the legalities of this. otherwise you could always point the main roads mob your mechanics way if you do get a defective vehicle notice.

Gas is probably different as it runs a lot cleaner then dirty old unleaded.

ever seen the back of a car running ulp that has the catalytic converter removed/bashed in, the cars bumper bar changes colour to a yellow colour from the nasty gases that are emitted.

bring back leaded cars FTW.
