hope they didn't start with a filter and build the car around it like some of those nissan s**t that are nearly impossible to chage filters on

you wouldn't think so as the block should be pretty much thesame as the BA...

they are different. they changed the material and the size thread on the block, BA's particularly were having problems with the oil filter threads screwing out of the block with the oil filter at service, or soemtimes just coming lose and no1 noticing...

if your car is still under new car warranty use a genuine filter. true your warranty isnt voided by using a repco filter, but consider this scenario. The oil filter blocks due to an "oops" in manufacture, and the engine craps itself. Ford will say it was caused by the Non Genuine oil filter falling apart internally and thus make it someone elses problem, and the Non Geniune place will say its fords fault for whatever reason, and u'll be left in the middle with a car that doesnt go. And yes i've seen it happen...

Don't you have to pay to have the car serviced at an authorised joint if the car is still under warrenty? Or else it voids the warrenty/?

Maybe the change is due to a simple thing called technology, 40 years ago a full synthetic oil wasnt heard of as far as i know. So the new filters have to be able to keep up with the demands of these new lubricants.

Was at Ford assembly plant today and looked at the engine fitting line. The oil filters arent that much smaller than the Z9's so really i dont see all the fuss!
