Hi all
Can someone point me in the right direction .On a hot day after i have been driving for half to three quarters of an hour ,when i stop at the lights my oil pressure gauge goes onto the red and the warning beeper beeps at me.I have just changed the oil as i thought it might have been getting a bit thin.Now if i stop the car for half an hour it is alright again. What could it be ,i have no oil leaks,oil is ok. Any suggestions please.I drive an au series 1 ghia.Thanks :

i kinda haev the same problem as well, but when it beeps at me, i rev it up to around 3grand and the oil pressure rises? anyone know what it might mean? my oil level is fine, check it at least wice a week. so i dotn kwno whats going on here.

I hope that's a 12 litre bottle or something as Castol Magnatec should only be around $25.00 mark for 5litres!!! Maybe your sensor is buggered? Just that if your oil pressure had really dropped so low that the warning buzer had gone off and that so many times I would't think your engine would be running any more! |

thats what i thought as well, im gussing its the sensor, would anyone know a rough price for one?

How many K's on the engine, if the bearings are worn it takes more oil to float the crank so when the oil heats up and thins out the oil pressure drops (plus the oil pump would be worn as well) use a good mechanical guage plumbed into where the oil sender goes to make sure its not the sender or guage.

how u going. i had the same prob. mine was the timing chain tensiner was leaking. or ur rings could be worn. i use castrol 25-15 oil it seams to help a bit. (sorry bout the spelling lake of sleep)

Ford only run 40psi and it is a known fact that worn engines will show just about no pressure when hot at idle, as long as pressure goes up as soon as the revs do. But as Macca13 said check sender and gauge.
I have experienced this with 4 cyl Fords and they just keep going, but it can be very disconcerting when the buzzer goes off.

Worn rings cause low oil pressure ????? WRONG, WRONG, WRONG

I dont quite see how worn rings effect oil pressure, unless they are so worn that they allow fuel to dilute the oil in the sump. If they were that bad I think you would be unable to see a car following you. Worn main and bigend bearings are the most likly culprets as well as a worn oil pump. It is also possible that the oil pressure releif valve spring could be broken.

I was using the recommended ford 5/30 so i went up to valvoline 10/30 to see if this made a differance |

Hmm.... Sounds like my EF exactly! I'm a bit worried tho, as I have replaced my sender as a precaution, and it still does it. Seems to be doing it less with the colder weather lately. A touch of the throttle and it goes away. I'm using GTX2 atm.
Maybe an adjustment at the idle screw would help a bit? I was even thinking of a mechanical mod to put some load on the pedal when at idle with no speed (only when hot and not in park). Any thoughts on this?

my car used to to have lowish pressure. not to the point of of the buzzer going off though.
i changed from penrite 10w50 to motul 5w40 and the problem went away after about a week. so i used it for the next 2 oil changes then went back to the penrite and now never have any problems at all |

I get the exact same problem, but mine doesn't reach the bottom. I'm starting to think it might have something to do with the EF fairmont cluster. Before my engine rebuild, when my car would get hot it would drop off to just below the bottom mark (the one above the red bit). Installed a high volume oil pump and no change. Completely rebuild motor and the same thing happens. Its fine when the car is cold or has got a few revs, but as soon as it gets hot and idles it drops down to the bottom mark, (no buzzing noise thought) mind you I do have a turbo heating up the oil. I've seen other stock EF's with the exact same thing, but never a EL..
Maybe someone should try a EL dash and see if the same thing happens.... |
