Just quick question,

I just got my oil sender working again. (welcome back, and no more alarms!)

Those who know its a fresh motor in the car with a JP oil pump.

On to the question.

At first I noticed the oil pressure was stable, give it some beans and it rises (duh)

The dash diagnostics max out at 9.7 bar, does anyone know is the the max read for the oil sender?

What would you perceive to be too much oil pressure?
It does not phase me as it does not maintain stupid pressure, and quickly returns to a solid 3.7 bar, once i have removed the spirit from my right foot.

Should I be running a mechanical oil guage along side fords ever trustworthy oil sender for a more accurate reading of how much fun i am having?

I have had a mechanical guage on to test pressures, but only at idle, and the guage is out but only by about .2 bar,

So what does it max out at?

Would you suggest a mechanical guage?
What one? (provide link)

That cant be right, 10 bar is just over 140PSI, sender not being acurate? Idle definatly showed sitting at 3.9 bar on the machanical, 3.7 bar on dash diagnostics.

Surely thses do not pressurise to this extreme.

advice? I got antoher sender hanging around, but next oil change is another 4500km away yet and i on not even want to think about taking the sender out while the filter is still in there.

I reckon if the oil pressure reads way over 4 bar, and the sender unit or Ford gauge is suspect, install a mechanical gauge. Not sure what they max out at. There's an aluminium fitting you can buy that goes between the oil filter and block. From this you can run an oil pressure line (and oil temp if you want). Otherwise, try the other oil sender you've got. Make sure it's not just an oil pressure switch (ie. one that triggers the oil light & doesn't work with a gauge). Are you sure you haven't got one of these installed now?

Did you install a high volume or high pressure oil pump? I quizzed a few engine builders and they reckon it's not necessary to have either in street engine. I ended up getting a V8 oil pump spring installed in my pump when the engine was rebuilt. Pushes the oil pressure up about 0.5-1 bar.

I recommend VDO gauges, but the you could go for a Speco or Autometer.

Put a quality mechanical gauge on it. No point in guessing

Tickford_6, I am looking at the ford motorsport guages, are these good? what can you recommend? do you know of a kit that I can install on the next oil change that will allow both the factory oil sender and aftermarket guage?

Shortshift, I have another oil sender, 100% its a sender part numbers have been checked. I know the fittings you are talking about, if I go that route I will end up using a Z89a filter as teh body is smaller, Z9's are big enough without adding anymore length to it.

I only just changed the oil and coil packs on sunday gone, so s**t can stay the way it i right now, but i gotta start accumulating stuff between now and then.

the ford motorsport one are good. I use Auto meter pro-comp (pro-comp being the series of gauges by auto meter) Not pro-comp the brand.

I've bought brass 'T's, etc. from places like All Tools. If you take the sender along and make sure it's the right thread. Not sure if they use BPT or metric threads on the senders. Autobarn & Supercheap may have them too.
