Hello,

I just test drove an EB series 2 Fairmont 6 cylinder. When I started the car the oil pressure gauge was reading quite high, close to seven. After driving the car for about 5 minutes it went down to about half way. Is this a problem? The car's done about 205000 but it has a full history. It also needs a new battery, so maybe its just an electrical thing? Any help is much appreciated.

could be electrical,, i know my dash has many electrical gremlins.. but high pressure is better than no pressure with oil.. i dont think it would be a drama.. ask the owner about it? how long it has been doing it, when it does etc

Nothing at all wrong with that.

Don't put thicker oil in it. It's already got 20/50 in it by the sounds of things. The only oil you can get that's thicker is diff oil!!

If anything, put a thinner oil in.

It's completely normal to get high oil pressure when the engine's cold. The oil pump pumps the same volume of oil, but the oil's thicker, so the oil pressure is higher. As the oil heats up, the oil gets thinner and the oil pressure drops.

Basically all you need to worry about is if the oil pressure doesn't rise with revvs and stays low all the time, or if the oil pressure is sky high. 7's fine.

that last post answered a question i was gona post. thanks.

After putting in 10/40 in my EL (with 260,000km on the clock) its high when i start it but lower when it revs..the old oil which was 20/50 didnt do this and it was very high all the time. However whenever i push the car up a hill or just rev it on stand still in N it rises...so no probs im happy :D
