the oil pressure guage on my el ghia is playing silly buggers. The gauge has 7 incriments but no actual numbers. Sometimes it sits at bar 6 constantly (mostly when cold), other times it sits at 2 when its idling and then up to 5-6 when i accelerate away.

any ideas?

hey mate, that's cause its their job as CJH said.

when you're @ idle oil pressure is low, when you're accelerating its high.
just make sure it doesnt sit on the line JUST above the orange square down the bottom, and if the light and alarm come on stop immediately.

this is also why ford got rid of this style of gauge in the AU, so many ppl called up with this very concern

it just seems so foolish to provide a guage without calibration... the fools are still doing it with the boost guages on the typhoon.

Thanks for the advice.

As said, I'd be much more worried if it never moved, considering oil pressure should change depending on what the engine is actually doing...

Mine sits on 6 in 5th at 100, and about 3/4 on idle.

dont forget that a lot of car owners (not referring to the OP here) wouldnt know that, and seeing a needle fluctuate would have just plain freaked them out.
