not a simple job. not something id do without a hoist. drop the k-fame (4 bolts, and engine mounts, any other trans cooler pipes attached ect.) sump off and there go. id say a real s**t job on the ground.

i personaly would much rather pull the motor out and work on it up off the ground

im assuming you have an oil pressure problem?????
if so, something to check before you pull it appart.. unplug the vct solinoid and start the car, if the pressure comes good the o ring that seals the vct unit against the cam gear has gone.. ive seen this before and this will cause next to no pressure at idle.. |

I tried the VCR module and still no change the oil light came on plus the lifters are sounding off

have you tested/replaced the pressure sender? these can fail, I've had it happen, car appears to have no oil pressure just like in the situation you are describing, replaced the sender, all was good. if you replace the sender and it still does it, get a leak down test, if that passes, get a mechanical oil gauge and test it, if it passes leak down but fails on gauge, it oil pump, if it is ok on the gauge but fails leak down, you got bigger things to worry about. ie rings,

When u say pressure sender do mean pressure switch cause if u do then I know what your talking otherwise I dont

the pressure sender is located on the intake side between cylinders 1 and 2 just above the oil filter, you will need to remove the filter to get access, it unscrews, its a mofo to get at as well. you are best getting a new sender, going to a tool shop and getting the required extra deep socket to fit. There is only 1 plug on the very end of the sender. Make sure you buy a pressure sender and not a switch, as all the switch will tell you is either on or off, the sender is what is required when you have the pressure gauge on the dash. The pressure sender is not expensive, when diagnosing, start with the cheapest items first.
Sometings the senders get fowled up and give false reports like what you are getting, its better to just replace these items than atempt to repair them. Let me know how you go on identifying the location of the sender.

what oil are you using? perhaps to thin? a thicker oil will biuld better pressure than a light one.
To answer your original quest, to do an oil pump.. its either engine out or K-Frame out. either is a relatively big task. Hence why we are trying to get you diagnose stuff without having to remove the engine. When did you last change the oil and filter? This is the very first thing I would do if I was getting lifter noise and pressure issues. a slightly heavier oil and fresh filter. then if it still persists, put a manual gauge on it to check for pressure, then a leak down test, then i would be looking to do the pump. if the motors going to come out and the sump off then that's a last resort
