my car has been constantly in lOS or limp home mode pretty much ever since i pulled my dash apart and then put it back together. i did a self diagnostic on the ECU and all the codes that were coming up were all said tha it is caused by an open circuit or short circuit to ground.

i've tried numerous times playing with the main ground wire for the dashboard. i sanded of the paint and the bolt itself to give better grounding but it still doesnt work..

the codes are:
783
786
685
695

does anyone have any ideas..

there is NO 685 code listed in the genuine manual I think you must have a plug not connected or a blown fuse,

Well 783 and 786 seem to relate to serial data outputs and a "performance indicator light" (is this the check engine light?)

But 695 relates to transmission solenoid 5 and EEC is claiming it cannot effectively control it.

Id pull the dash out and put it back together again... may be a crimped wire or plug not back in properly??

If 695 persists then maybe need to have a trans specialist look at it... preferably one who knows a thing or two about ford BTR transmissions...

786 is the ECON light. mines been throwing up that code since I nicked the bulb for my extra oil light switch :P

It doesn't put it into limp mode tho, so i'd look at the others. If those solenoid codes are correct, its strange that pulling the dash apart caused them. More likely the serial output link is the problem.

Check your right side plug to the cluster, theres 4 data/signal lines going to that (pins 4, 5, 7, 8, 14), maybe its not fully seated. Its quite a hard push to get those plugs all the way home. (and a bastard to get them out!)

I'd suggest clearing the codes, and reading them again too.
