What you heard is from a smear campaign a while back. bing using the s**t for some years now & I can tell you, I can't see, hear, smell or feel any wear.
you just gotta switch between fuel now & again!

there a thing on today-tonight a few weeks ago about a ~85% ethenol fuel, the guy had it on a BA falcon XT. big stickers on the side. this fuel is called E85 "google it". the guy was selling conversion kits, chip/new injectors.

http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/ne ... thanol.htm say that most cars older than 1986 wont work well with it.

I'm running a tank of the BP 95 octane ethenol stuff... Haven't been able to tell any difference between it or premium, but then this is only the first tank so in a few weeks we'll see how it goes in terms of both performance and economy.

Info about the whole ethanol thing... Taken from Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries Website.

Ford: All petrol engine vehicles since 1986 WILL operate satisfactorily on E10 except as listed below.

The following models may not operate satisfactorily on E10 fuel because of drivability concerns:
Focus (2002 - 2004), F-series (1986-1992), Ka (All), Maverick (1988-1993), Mondeo (All), Transit (1996 - 2004).

The following models do not operate satisfactorily on E10 fuel:
Capri (1989-1994), Courier 2.0L & 2.6L (All), Econovan (pre-2002), Festiva (All), Laser 1.3L, 1.5L & 1.6L (All), Raider (All), Telstar (All).

TECHNICAL REASONS FOR INABILITY TO USE E10
The following are reasons why certain vehicle models cannot or should not use E10 because of material incompatibility and driveability issues respectively. There are also comments on possible exhaust and evaporative emissions issues. This list was compiled from information submitted by manufacturers.

CANNOT USE BECAUSE OF MATERIAL INCOMPATIBILITY ISSUES

Early deterioration of components in fuel injection system:

Fuel tanks
Fuel lines/hoses
Injector seals
Delivery pipes
Fuel pump and regulator
Vehicles with carburettor fuel systems may experience hot fuel handling concerns and may experience a lower level of durability in some fuel system components.

Some manufacturers advise not to use E10 with any model equipped with a carburettor because of material incompatibility.

SHOULD NOT USE BECAUSE OF DRIVEABILITY ISSUES

Vapour pressure of fuel with ethanol will be greater (if not chemically adjusted) and probability of vapour lock or hot restartability problems will be increased.

Oxygen content of ethanol is 34.7%. This can cause the engine to run lean although the Engine Control Unit (ECU) can generally compensate via feedback from the O2 sensor under light throttle conditions. However, hesitation or flat-spots during acceleration can occur due to this lean-out effect.

Difficulty in starting and engine hesitation after cold start.

EXHAUST AND EVAPORATIVE EMISSION LEVELS

Lean-out resulting from the oxygenating effect of ethanol in the fuel may affect exhaust emissions.

Fuel containing ethanol can increase permeation emissions from fuel system components.

Vapour pressure of fuel with ethanol will be greater (if not chemically adjusted at the refining stage) and can lead to increased evaporative emissions.

iv been running optimax for about 8 months now, and i aint turned to regular since, except one time i used BP ultimate due to me running out of petrol :) or coming close :), i wont be going back to regular, cause i can definatly can notice the difference, economy is slightly better, but i heard timing or something needs to be adjusted when your running on a premium petrol to increase economy and performance, not too sure on that though so dont quote me on it, one thing i hate about premium, when petrol stations put regular into the premium or what ever, i totally notice the difference, power is decreased and the amount of K's i get decrease too! so i get so p****d of when im paying 10 cnts more for regular, i always get mine at the same place now which is on canterbury rd canterbury as its usually the cheapest and they've never f**k me over yet :) towards dandenong i got done over with regular

mate i dont think you will find petrol stations do this, apart from being highly illegal and the fines for doing so would be massive...

its possible you got a bad batch of fuel.. but definatly not bought regular at premium price, they are permitted to put premium in regular tanks, but definatly not the other way around

Hey Futura_xr,
