yeh. i know that it USED to be power to weight. but now thats irrelevant. i got my P's in August 2008. just after the no v8 or turbos at all rule come out.
i hate that people who think just because it's a V8, even if it's a clapped out 30y.o V8, is quicker. just because it has 2 more cylinders

ive got a ba xr6 with extractors + typhoon intake, these mods are legal in nsw, because the rta specify "no engine performance mods that substantially increase power" when i asked them about this they simple said (after 2 months of trying to get an answer) if it doesn't need an engineering certificate its A ok.
thats an example of a p plate car that will smoke alot of old v8's that are illegal to drive. going by the red book, a brand new EF xr8 is 165kw, 398nm, and 0-100 in 8.1, my legal ba xr6, has more power, probably the same nm (since mods) and does 0-100 in 7.06 (average of my times). think about a slightly modded fg!! its going to be interesting when ford release the new eco boost engine, even tho no p platers are gonna buy one, it will be an illegal car to drive thats slower then the 6 which is legal to drive.

But it's an easy way for Vicroads/the Govt. to make themselves look good by taking "action". Personally I think some sort of drivers ed program should be compulsory in schools, I mean sure you're always going to have dumbasses but I think it would make a difference. |
