What would be the consequences of not using high temp pain, I saw someone do it in 2pac blue or soemthing.... wouldn't it get too hot?

Cheers

my bro painted his (wil get flamed for this) v8 vn ss and v8 vs ss in 2pac, never peeled, but he hit it with 2pac primer, rubbed it back, painted it, and as soon as it was dry, he put it on, never had a problem with peeling, but he didn't have any of these cars for long.

Ive just painted my rocker cover.Used engine enamel. To prep it,spray it with degreaser, scrub it,hose it off.Do this two or three times and then let it dry really well. When you paint it,remember four or five light coats is best.Let each coat dry before applying the next coat.BTW,I painted mine orange---looks ok with stainless extractors and stainless intake pipe.

hmm you guys have got me thinking, my rocker cover could do with a new hit of paint, the old paint seems to be peeling everywhere, doesn't look very attractive.

Morning Fresh dishwashing detergent really gets things clean too, use plenty of it and be sure to wash the suds off thoroughly after your finished. I found it to be less painfull than prepsol as I have never had a trace of silicon (fish eyes) in my pressure pack paintwork since.

I started by paint stripping it. The rocker cover is cast so it has a lot of pitting on it, and the more of this pitting that you remove the better the final finish is.
I started with about 200grit wet and dry and slowly moved up to about 1200. I block sanded it to give a nice flat finish, to look along the rocker cover it is as flat as glass. The hard bit is the curved side where the spark plug cutouts are. For this I used an 80 grit flap wheel moving up to a 240 grit flap wheel mounted in a drill (or a die grinder if you have one), then moving up through the grades of wet and dry but this time by hand.
The biggest point I need to emphasise is patients as it doesnt transform untill about the last hour and a half of work, it looks s**t up untill then. After you have finished sanding the entire rocker cover and it has got a uniform 1200 finish, get out your Autosol (available at auto shops and Big W) and polish your a*** off. The trick is to not apply too much autosol and let it dry a little so that the grit helps to fine cut the surface to a brilliant shine8)As the shine starts to come up then start using the compound a little wetter.
For the redline around the base and the filler cap, well thats pretty self explanitory, just make sure you sand it back well to get the paint to stick and spend 2hours masking and 2 minutes painting. its easier to do a job once properly
Have fun people and dont curse me when you have worn your fingers to the bone in pursuit of a bright shiny rocker cover
