Im pretty sure my head gasket is up s**t creek.

which means if im going to take the prick off, why dont i port and polish while im at it.

Apparently a few companies like Yella Terra do changeover heads. So why the hell not.

Does anyone know where and how much a port and polish would set me back for my ed and would it be worth it?

Also any other companies that do change over.

cheers

i just went through rebuilding a motor and chasing up info about the heads...

wat i got told was that u can get a p& p done...start at 400 bucks to about 1500...

but they told me it wasnt really worth it as the 4lt head flows good...they recommended puttin bigger valves in it so i did that and a cam...

jmm do change over heads for about 1200 its called the street fighter head or something...that price is exchange too

jesus, thats not cheap. I suppose jmm isnt cheap at the best of times tho.

Ive already done 4 bigger cams, altho theyre still pissy cams.

The Ed xr6's have a ported head dont they or is it all in the valves? whats the go with bigger valves? How do they give more grunt? (complete noob when it comes to heads / valves)

I was going to go ecu and headers, but now the heads gotta come off, i figure i might aswell do something to that while its off. Since im trying to go with the "If its broke, fix it with something better/faster."

well it ended up costing me about 1200 for a complete head overhaul, bigger inlet and exhuast valves cam and springs

bigger valves just help with the flow, gets more in and more out

Hmm, too much over budget.

I read an article with jim mock before and its left me not knowing where the hell to go, should just go forced!!! :)

Or set fire to the ed and buy something decent.

Ive had my head done, revs much smoother and seems to enjoy 5000rpm+ compared to when it was stock.

well depending on how many times u take ur car above 5k i guess then maybe it would be worth it...but for a car that normally just drives on the road i rarely visit 5kprm so i doubt its worth it

I see alot of 5k, since i have manual i rev out alot, never to limiter, ive got to the point of being able to tell revs by speed, but i pretty much never see the other side of 5k.

Im pretty sure its gonna be out of my price range by the time i get the head taken off, should do it myself...

Dunno where to go.

Maybe ill wait till i stop getting fines and the car runs right.

Still, ill enquire about this change over stuff anyways.

I have been told from a very good source the 4.0L head flows heaps on the intake, exhaust benefits from a little work. Exhaust valves would be the ones to change too (as tickford did). shave a bit off for some more comp and you'll have a head as good as you'll ever need unless your being a n/a hero and revving to 7 grand.

the 1636 isnt a bad cam either. it would like some port work i imagine. one of the sydney cam gurus grinds a similar cam with a bit more exhaust. works really well

If it's an ea n revving over 5k it would be going backwards. Ford 4ltrs aren't rice burners & don't love to rev. Especially the earlier models making max power at around 3500.

If you want bigger ports n a smoother drive put an ef head on it, they have the biggest ports of any head ford ever put into an e series.
Warning: CFI motors need cfi heads. If it's a cfi forget about power from the start unless you want to throw away your computer n bolt on a holley they will be lucky to drag off your average hyundai excel.

The more you see of 5k the less you will see of your motor unles it's a race prepared head with bigger fuel pump, surge tank, injectors & cam it's an absolute waste of time p&p'ing your head. you need the flow up front to get the flow out of a head. A race prepared or jmm head tested on a flow bench to 1,000,000kw won't do you any good to a stock as a rock nugget, probably give it a heart attack n make it s**t itself if anything.
