Hey all,

Last night while pulling up at the front of my girlfiends place i noticed my car was leaking coolant! I lifted the bonnet and noticed that it was coming from underneath the BBM area.

I still dont know what it may be. I narrowed it down to the following:

1. Heater hose (i think its located around that area)

2. Water pump?? (dont know where thats situated)

3. Headgasket??? (still have to check the oil for the dreaded milky complextion)

It looked like it may be coming from a metal hose that runs under the bbm. I havenet had a chance to look at it in the light, so i was just wondering what it may be?

also it would probably be better upgrading to an AU engine if it is the head gasket??? My motors done 243000k

Cheers all

Thanks in advance.

i would say heater hose or pipe..
that is the only thing under the bbm that could leak coolant other than the welch plugs.
usually if the head gasket leaks it leaks from the exhaust side!

if your gasket does blow. and your bottom end is still good(no blue smoke/engine knocks ect) just shave the head and use the au steel gasket and it might last another 200,000+kms

my old engine leaked from the exhaust side of the head for more than 12 months and didnt show the serious signs of head gasket failure..

it will probably be the heater pipe that goes from thermostat stat housing metal pipe to the heater tap. common pipe to let go. from memory it's 3/4in rubber pipe and to replace it just put the car on some ramps and work from underneath.

I blame heater hose/pipe too...mine burst at the drags because i couldn't be f**k replacing the heater hose.

If it is the heater hose, I suggest you replace all the hoses on the car...top and bottom hose, 2 S-bend hoses, 2 heater hoses (one small one large), and hoses that run from the radiator to various locations. It'll cost about $100 - 200 to replace all of them yourself.

If you don't replace all hoses after one hose failure, the pressure build up will find the next weak spot and make that hose burst...but you could also have had a bad heater hose.

phong =P~

Thanks for the quick replies. Im relived that it seems to just be the heater hose, as i am relly not in the mood to do a headgasket!!!

Cheers

Damn,

I new there was going to be someone that was going to say something like that.

Well if it does end up being the headgasket then i will most probably get an au engine with a 1/4 of the klms of mine. it will be cheaper then getting the headgasket done!!!

Yeah my EB did that out the intake side, only a lil bit but enough to be annoying, plus the temp gauge was going right up and right down continuously while i was driving along not enough pressure or something, did replace the thermostat but that didn't fix it. good luck and fingers crossed its not head gasket.
