yep, but if your spending that much to have it made up I am sure it would be justified.

How much is too much compression on a NA OHC 6? Or isnt there?
I Think i have a bit too much given the power mines makes.

Too hard to say. First you would need to say what the compression is and what has been done to achieve it, what fuel it runs, what the engine is used for, what ignition system/tuning it has for starters. There's more but they are generally the main ones.

Its got close to 11:1 comp. I dont know whats been done to achieve it, a combination on machining & head gasket i guess? I use 98ron fuel & the car is a daily. Its a new engine with ACL pistons, little bit done to the head & a pretty big crow cam. I think it should be making close to 160rwkw but is making around the 145 mark.
I want to know if too higher compression could be a cause? Also pings occasionally.

That is pretty gnarly compression for pump juice, as for whether its too high...

Do you happen to know what was done with the ignition timing? I have a feeling there would have been some fairly dramatic changes to stop it pinging with that compression which may have affected it. Either this or it could be running really rich too. Someone with a bit more tuning specific knowledge should be able to help.

That is indeed pretty high for a streeter. Mine has about 9.9:1, and that is about as high as i would go with the rubbish fuel we have here.

The last NA engine i built had 11.5:1, and i had to run it on C16, pump fuel was a no go. However, a really good tune should see it gone.

Its all tuned correctly by the guy who built the motor. Its all thru an EMS Stinger.
He wants me to run a different higher octane fuel to stop the pinging & up the power.
Thanks for the replies.

Is this car a daily driver/did your engine builder/tuner know it was to be a daily or is it only a circuit car? If you ran race fuel you would probably see better results but this isnt exactly practical if it's a daily.

And i'm with fordfairmont, even in my old race car we left the compression at a touch over 10:1 (although it was only junior street's)

Yeah he knew what i was using the car for. The fuel im gonna use is pump fuel but only available at 2 servos here in SA. One being near my home. So its semi practical. Like i said about the comp, its close to 11:1. Think it was 10:9 maybe? Cant remember.

Only speaking from experience bloke. When you change only the cam and pick up 19 rwkw. I'm still waiting to hear back wether or not they gave me the right grind, and it went back before Christmas.

If it is pinging and you have an EMS, get it retuned and take some timing out. That will solve that problem straight away. You may lose some torque, but it wont be that noticeable.
