My Na Fairlane doesn't seem to have any power at takeoff, after having a new power steering pump fitted I noticed a scraping noise at the harmonic balance & realized the mechanic had over tightened
the pulley belt, what damage would be done to the harmonic balance & also would that be effecting my power problem???, once the car get moving it has all it's power back... :?: :(

hi welcome to fordmods,

i doubt over tightening the belt would do damage to anything else, what was scraping? and have u now backed the belt off a bit?
have u checked the timing? having no power on takeoff

thanks for the welcome, I know over tightening can do damage to alternator & water pump bearings & I did back the belt off a bit but it isn't in alignment anymore it still hits the timing cover a bit, but not as bad anymore, it now wobbles like a buckled wheel & the timing mark is no where close to where it should be.... :?

Also over tightening belts can put stress on accessorie brackets causing them to bend and missalign drive belt components.

so does the harmonic balance sit on a key & is it possible that it has broken the key or moved off it as the timing couldn't be as far out as the mark says it is, also I was wondering if a switch in the auto gearbox could be causing the lack of power at take off as the motor idles at about 700rpm in neutral but only idles at about 300rpm while in gear :idea:
