Hey guys, thanks for previous help on removing bastard harmonic balancer and what not..

Now, what I need to know..

I've been calling round getting quotes to have the engine bored out about 25 thou, prices have varied by HUGE amounts. I have been quoted anywhere from about $250 including chemical clean to almost $600 for the same job.

The bores do have some minor pitting and its pretty much just a clean up, but it needs a touch more than a hone.

I am also going to get the head skimmed and valve seats redone. Just wondering what people have paid previously and who in Sydney you would recommend.

Cheers
Dave

it's going to be a case of you get what you pay for.

Ask them what machines they use and if they will use a torque plate.
The guys asking for more, ask them what benefit you will get from them over the cheaper guys.

if only that was in NSW, I have found some guys over bankstown way, phone manner was absolute crap, but he did sound like he know what he was talking about, I know thatgetting quoted 800 is crazy, but I have had 3 quotes IN EXCESS of that. one guy actually quoted me 1300!! Told him it was not a porsche motor just a falcon motor, Guess he either needed the work REAL bad or didn't need it at all.

just remember, phone manner is no indication of quality of work.
you'll find all of the good guys will have pretty poor phone manner and wont really give a s**t untill you turn with money. No one want's to spend time on the phone when they could be working and earning money.

Hey,

If you go to Trick & Mansweto's website you will find prices, that i think are reasonable, and there is no question their work is exceptional......

On the other hand i have never had a problem with GEM, i think their prices for a bore and whatnot is ok.......

Cheers
