I have a 4 cylinder ED falcon. In the past week my car has been not driving properly. When i drive along it stops accelerating at around 4000 revs. I think it may be the cat convertor being blocked because the other night i checked my engine and my exaust manifold was glowing red. And normally when changing down gears i can hear compression pops from the exaust but i havent heard any since its start to play up. its not the fuel filter not supplying enough fuel because i changed that today. Any input would be apperciated, im going to pull the cat off tomorrow to check it. if any one has any idea on what it might be please let me know.

Cheers, Mitch.

When you say it stops accelerating do you mean it just flat spot or a miss or sorts??

woops wrong number. 6 lol. it accelerates slower than normal. and when it reaches 4000 revs it just stops like its rev limited. which its not.

My ef has done a similar thing on ocasion but very rarely and my cat is stuffed... mine has a hole in it now and sounds horible  so i supose its posible to be your cat, especialy if it is blocked!

The ignition timing is stupidly retarded to the point its blowing flames out the exhaust valves, which is causing the manifold to glow... In turn it will melt and kill the cat.

Or the cat may just be blocked.

One of the 2.

Reason why is that I drove with the speedo plug detached and when the tacho hit 4000 rpm it died. I believe the rev limiter came in as a safety precaution. Try it and see. I s**t cos I was racing a VY SS in first and at 4000 rpm it was like I just stopped. Scarey but at least the EEC4 was protecting the engine. And I was beating him up to to 50kph :)
