Hey everyone, i got pulled over for my loud exhaust :) lol

It was f**k loud which was funny trying to explain to him that it was legal and letting me go with it.

But he did send me to the EPA :) lol, so my question is, when your sent to the EPA, your first try is free isnt it? Then if you fail, you need to come back and do it again after you have fixed it, and you need to pay for the second test.

Or is their a fine right from the start/ pay for the first test etc?

Im in Victoria too which is pretty important for the question being answered :)

Cheers, Matt

You need to take it to an EPA approved testing station, IE Daalder Exhausts (dandenong/Boxhill)
The test costs around $145 iirc, and they can 'fix' the annoying droning falcon on the spot at your expense.

If you ignore the infringement you can cop a very hefty fine from the EPA.
In my experience the EPA issues you with a summons to have it tested and rectified within 28days.
And no, you wont get away with steel wool and a simple resonator change to just pass, In fact they have to draw a picture of your exhaust before and after to cover their butts, if you put it back and get done again, then good luck,

Yes, us Victorians are obviously more important

had my car done from being too loud, you at least have to have a resonator and a muffler but mine was still about 40db over so i got a baffle made to go in the exhaust flange just for the test and it was about 20db under whats legal

Does anyone know if they issue with the fine on the spot or if they send it out to you in the mail?

They mail it out IIRC, good luck if you have been EPA'd, a few people have, cme subsequently listed the car for sale once the $$$$ to pass the test became apparant

my falc that is way over legal, hasnt been done, hell coppas at booze bus's have said "sounds nice", depends how you use the noise i spose.

No, you don't even have to go to the EPA to get it checked if it's only noise.

I took one of my other cars the other week, in bendigo, 308 V8, bought it with an outstanding EPA on it, guy who sold it to me was nice enough to forget that :(

It was extractors into 2.5" system, into 3" tailpipe, just got a standard muffler welded into the tailpipe, came in 3DB under the limit.

Basically they just draw a pic of your exhaust, then test it for noise. If you are under, they give a clearance, then you have to fax it to the EPA and they clear your car. My EPA notice was overdue so rego was suspended, but im guessing yours hasnt been yet so you will be fine
