Gday, we have had an EL GLI since new, now my sister drives it, anyway i had a question about the temp guage, it never ever moves, apart from when i firt start the car, it will go up a few mm. Even after driving through the QLD outback for 8 hours straight, i does not move at all. Is this normal?

Also, we used to service the car regularly, but since about 2 years ago, we have not serviced it at all or performed any maintanance or checked anything, yet the car has done about 40,000 k's since then. Is it really that bad to never service it as long as nothing appears to be to badly wrong?

The car has been going strong, and i know it is always better to service a car, but i have been spending to much money on my other cars that im more passionate about.

mate you should never wait 40000kms to service your car. Replacement oil and filters cost jack s**t. That's why I do mine every 5000kms. I'd say that you would be very lucky if you havent significantly shortened the life of many of the engine components. It doesnt cost much to change the oil. It costs me less than $40 to change for my car (including filter).

40,000 is tooo long. Servicing should b done at either 10,000 or at 6 months, which ever comes first

i change my oil and oil filter every 8000-10000km. and car ran fine (the old EA that is). but u shouldnt leave it for more then a year without a change :S

btw im also having that problem with the temp guage i think. the needle moves from C to the normal bracket but sits still in the normal bracket even after hours of driving and revving it over 4500RPMs at traffic lights......i hope thats normal :S

phong =P~
