Hi all,

I have recently bought a vehicle with the 250ci 6cyl running the stromberg carb, the Fuel is via a fuel cell through an electric fuel pump. the problem I have is the motor starts sweet, idles sweet, but as you get down to about half throttle the motor coughs, f@rt and backfires and dies.

Would anyone have any ideas what to start with getting this motor running sweet, I've changed the Plugs (all were carbon fouled) leads and Dizzy..
I'm thinking maybe the pump is overfueling??
What pressure should the pump be pumping fuel to the carb??

Help Please

Cheers

Tony

I reckon its probably the fuel pump like you said, choking with too much fuel.

id put a kit thru the carby, probably around $40, for starters
the fuel pump will supply fuel at around 3-4 psi

If it's rich it will just die, it wont back fire, but it would need to hugely rich.

More then likely its lean, you'll have a blocked get or emulsion tube. or a really really low float.
try rebuilding the carb, If you can't fix it, i have about 40 of the old strombergs as 'new old stock' still in original boxes at work.

Tad over $300 + post to where ever it needs to go. Normally sell about 1 a month.

I'll be p****d off when they sell out though. I'll have to start rebuilding all the used ones i have. Which is a pain as almost all the used ones i have need throttle shaft bushing and or reshafting.
If you get it wrong the shaft will bind up.

I'm pretty sure i've got a few 'new old' XD-XF webers too.
